The RTS Index closed at 975 points on October 26, 2026, up 9 points or 1.0 percent. Expectations for Ukraine talks and Brent above USD 117 supported the advance, Interfax said.
The index rose 7 points from the 968-point midday level. Surgutneftegaz led the market with a 5.0 percent gain, while Sovcomflot rose 3.8 percent as investors considered possible relief from U.S. sanctions, Finam wrote.
Why did the RTS Index rise on Monday?
Russian stocks started the week higher as investors focused on possible negotiations over Ukraine. Brent also recovered above USD 117 after an intraday decline, adding support to energy-linked shares. The move came after the Bank of Russia kept its key rate at 14 percent on October 23 and raised its 2027 rate forecast.
The stronger ruble also supported the dollar-denominated index. Reuters said the currency had benefited from high oil prices, tax-related exporter sales and hopes for a softer sanctions stance.
