- The RTS Index stood at 945.39 points at 3:06 p.m. Moscow time on November 4, up 0.19 percent.
- Moscow Exchange trading continued in an additional holiday session with comparatively low liquidity.
- Investors monitored U.S. midterm election results, oil prices and geopolitical developments, including planned Russia-Ukraine-U.S. talks.
The RTS Index was trading at 945.39 points at 3:06 p.m. Moscow time on Wednesday, November 4, equivalent to 1:06 p.m. Berlin time. The index was up 0.19 percent from the previous close recorded by the market-data service Perplexity Finance.
Additional Session Limits Liquidity
Trading on the Moscow Exchange took place in an additional holiday session for Russia's Unity Day, according to Finam. The publication reported the RTS at 940.26 points at 10:21 a.m. Moscow time and described holiday liquidity as low, with movements largely technical. The later market-data reading therefore shows a modest recovery during the session, but it does not represent a closing level.
The preceding regular main session ended on November 3 with the RTS at 941.94 points, down 1.4 percent, according to TASS. The agency cited profit-taking and weaker market sentiment among the factors affecting Russian equities. TASS also reported that analysts expected the MOEX market to remain within a broad range on the next session.
Oil and Geopolitics in Focus
Investors were also watching oil prices, the ruble and geopolitical developments. Investing.com identified U.S. midterm election results and a reported potential transaction involving Lukoil's foreign assets among the morning's market themes, while Brent remained under pressure after the previous session. Planned Russia-U.S.-Ukraine talks in Abu Dhabi on November 10-11 were another point of attention cited in market coverage.
The RTS is a dollar-denominated, capitalization-weighted index of liquid Russian equities. The Moscow Exchange lists the RTS index code and confirms that the index is calculated continuously during designated trading periods. With the November 4 session still open at the reported time, the 945.39-point reading should be treated as an intraday level rather than a daily close.
