Energy producers drove the rebound. Trading Economics reported gains of 3.7 percent for Suncor Energy, 3.0 percent for Canadian Natural Resources, 2.6 percent for Imperial Oil and 2.5 percent for Cenovus Energy. The move followed renewed concerns about disruptions to Middle Eastern oil supplies.
Thursday's gain followed a sharp selloff
Investing.com said the index recovered from a 1.7 percent drop on Wednesday, when it closed at 35,042 points. Elevated bond yields and pressure on technology shares continued to weigh on the broader market.
What comes next
Statistics Canada is scheduled to release the September Labour Force Survey at 8:30 a.m. ET on Friday, October 9, 2026. A Reuters poll cited by Medicine Hat News expects employment to rise by 9,200 after a 42,000 decline in August, while the unemployment rate is forecast to increase to 6.5 percent from 6.4 percent. The release is the Bank of Canada's last labor-market reading before its October 28 policy decision, according to Admiral Markets.
