Why did the Shanghai Composite rebound?
SK Hynix reported third-quarter revenue of KRW 104.62 trillion and operating profit of KRW 83.33 trillion. Both figures exceeded market expectations and revived demand for artificial-intelligence shares across Asia, Zhitong Finance reported.
Chinese technology shares also followed gains in U.S. semiconductor stocks. Telecommunications equipment rose 6.0 percent, while electronics gained 4.0 percent. The move followed two sessions of losses and a recent low for the index.
Shanghai Composite sectors split sharply
Automation equipment rose 5.4 percent and non-metallic materials gained 6.2 percent. Food and beverage stocks fell 1.5 percent, while banks declined 0.6 percent, according to Zhitong Finance.
The broader market showed strong participation. A total of 4,156 stocks rose, 1,239 fell and 181 were unchanged. Turnover across Shanghai and Shenzhen reached RMB 1.63 trillion, up from RMB 1.46 trillion on the previous session, Xinhua said.
