The Shenzhen Component ended Tuesday's session under renewed pressure, closing 1.21% lower at 10,876.99 points. The move followed a rebound in the previous session but left the Shenzhen benchmark among the weaker major mainland Chinese equity indices. The close was reported by Xinhua for November 3, 2026.

Technology stocks lead the retreat

Market breadth was weak. Xinhua said shares in computing power hardware, semiconductor chips, robotics, pharmaceuticals and medical care posted notable losses, while insurance, pork and battery stocks led the gains. The ChiNext Index, which has a strong growth-stock and technology exposure, fell 2.73% to 2,391.65 points, highlighting the sharper pressure on higher-beta segments.

Sector-level trading detail from PANews pointed to broad weakness in computing-power hardware, including declines among several optical and communications-equipment companies. More than 3,300 stocks fell across the market, according to the report, while turnover on the Shanghai and Shenzhen exchanges reached 1.7 trillion yuan, down 80.3 billion yuan from the previous trading day.

Policy support fails to restore confidence

Investor attention remained focused on measures announced by Chinese authorities on Monday. The People's Bank of China said it would resume operations under the swap facility for securities, funds and insurance companies when necessary. It also lowered the relending rate for stock purchases and major-shareholder increases from 1.25% to 1% and made the facility permanent, according to Trading Economics.

The measures were intended to improve liquidity and encourage buybacks, but they did not prevent selling on Tuesday. Trading Economics reported that persistent economic weakness, earnings uncertainty and pressure on AI-related shares continued to weigh on sentiment. That combination suggests that investors are currently placing greater emphasis on the durability of corporate profits than on the immediate availability of policy liquidity.
