The Tether USDt price remains close to its 1.00 US dollar target as the issuer's response to the Binance security incident puts the control features of stablecoins in focus. Investing.com's USDT/USD page listed the token at 0.9989 US dollars, with a change of -0.0003, or -0.03 percent. The page also showed a 24-hour volume of 54.58 billion US dollars, a market capitalization of 179.82 billion US dollars and a circulating supply of 180.12 billion USDT.
Freeze action becomes central issue
On November 2, Tether said in an official statement that it had frozen more than 1.5 billion USDt within 30 minutes of the October 29 Binance hack. Tether said the U.S. Federal Bureau of Investigation had attributed the attack to North Korea. The statement describes the freeze as a measure to prevent the funds from being transferred, swapped or laundered.
For holders and market participants, the episode illustrates both sides of an issuer-controlled stablecoin. Fast intervention can restrict the movement of stolen assets, but the same technical capability means that addresses can be blocked during investigations. The event therefore concerns the use and settlement characteristics of USDT rather than a conventional speculative price catalyst.
Reserve cushion strengthens
Tether's third-quarter attestation, prepared by BDO and covering September 30, reported 1.5 billion US dollars in net operating profit. The company's release said the reserve buffer had risen to 7.95 billion US dollars from 4.1 billion US dollars at the end of the second quarter. Total reserve assets stood at 191.5 billion US dollars, against liabilities of 183.5 billion US dollars, while direct and indirect U.S. Treasury bill holdings totaled 132.4 billion US dollars.
The figures are an attestation snapshot rather than a full financial-statement audit. Tether said U.S. Treasury bills and reverse repurchase agreements provided most of its income, and that issuance remained broadly steady at 184 billion US dollars through the first three quarters of 2026. The reserve data offer a larger reported cushion, while the Binance response highlights the operational and regulatory dimensions of holding USDT.
Stablecoin context for investors
The Tether USDt price is designed to track the U.S. dollar, so a move of 0.03 percent is consistent with ordinary short-term deviation from the peg and should not be read as an equity-style growth signal. Users should distinguish the token's market price from Tether's reported reserves, operating profit and ability to freeze assets: these are related to the issuer and infrastructure, not a guarantee of a fixed trading price on every venue.
