Bitfinex pledges 80 percent of remaining proceeds
A US government wallet transferred 264.863 Bitcoin linked to the 2016 Bitfinex hack to Coinbase on October 6, 2026. According to CryptoTicker, Bitfinex pledged to use at least 80 percent of the remaining net proceeds for buying back and destroying LEO. The pledge applies after Recovery Right Tokens and case-related costs are deducted, so the transfer amount is not itself a LEO burn amount.
A token burn permanently removes tokens from circulation by sending them to an address without an access key. The same report said the pledge covers an 18-month period beginning when Bitfinex receives the recovered funds, while the size of the remaining net proceeds has not been quantified.
Twenty-seven percent revenue rule remains active
iFinex, the parent company of Bitfinex, also maintains a recurring purchase-and-burn mechanism. CryptoTicker reported that iFinex has committed at least 27 percent of consolidated gross monthly revenue to buying LEO on the open market and destroying the tokens. The purchases can also take place away from an exchange, including through a direct Bitcoin-for-LEO swap.
Trading activity offers a separate liquidity measure. CryptoTicker reported daily LEO volume of 150,000 USD on October 21, 2026, based on CoinGecko data. That figure is a market-activity snapshot and is separate from the current 24-hour volume reported below.
