Zcash is approaching its NU7 mainnet upgrade at a defined block height, with faster target block production and changes for older transactions. The Zcash price stood at 1,248.24 USD on the Investing.com page at 07:00 Berlin time on November 1.

NU7 brings a key network deadline

  • Zcash developers set NU7 to activate at mainnet block 3,543,405, with timing currently targeted for around November 5.
  • The upgrade is designed to reduce target block spacing from 75 seconds to 25 seconds.
  • Version 4 transactions will become invalid, leaving funds in the legacy Sprout pool unspendable after activation.
  • Investing.com displayed ZEC at 1,248.24 USD at 07:00 Berlin time on November 1, with a market capitalization of 21.11 billion USD.

Zcash is approaching a protocol milestone that could matter more for network users than for short-term price speculation. NU7 is set to activate at mainnet block 3,543,405, with the Zcash Foundation describing the timing as planned for around November 5. Because activation depends on reaching a block height rather than a fixed clock time, the calendar estimate can move with network conditions.

The Zcash Foundation says NU7 will reduce the target interval between blocks from 75 seconds to 25 seconds. At the protocol level, that is intended to shorten average confirmation waits. The release also introduces a Network Sustainability Mechanism under which 60% of transaction fees are removed from circulation and placed in a reserve, while miners retain the remaining 40%.

What ZEC users need to watch

NU7 also changes transaction compatibility. According to the Foundation's Zebra 7.0.0 release, version 4 transactions will no longer be valid after activation, while versions 5 and 6 remain valid. Since Sprout transfers can only use version 4, ZEC remaining in the legacy Sprout pool may become unspendable. Wallets, exchanges, indexers and node operators therefore need NU7-compatible software before block 3,543,405.

The Foundation has already released Zebra 7.0.0 as the first stable version with NU7 mainnet support. It says mainnet node operators should upgrade before activation to remain on the consensus chain. For ordinary holders, the practical issue is whether their wallet or service still relies on the outdated transaction format or holds funds in Sprout.

Price context ahead of activation

Investing.com displayed ZEC/USD at 1,248.24 USD at 07:00 Berlin time on November 1. The same page showed a 24-hour volume of 548.96 million USD, a market capitalization of 21.11 billion USD, rank 10, and 16.94 million ZEC in circulation. The Zcash price remains a live market indicator, while the upgrade itself is governed by the blockchain's activation height rather than by a scheduled market event.

TECHi reported that ZEC initially rose after the activation height was fixed and later gave back part of that move, illustrating why the network milestone should not automatically be treated as a reliable price signal. For investors tracking the Zcash price, the more concrete near-term checklist is software readiness, the treatment of Sprout balances and the network's performance as the activation block approaches.
