Zcash price after NU7: Faster blocks change the network's fee model

- Zcash activated the NU7 upgrade at mainnet block 3,543,405 on November 5, 2026.
- The update reduces target block intervals from 75 seconds to 25 seconds while keeping the 21 million ZEC supply cap and broadly unchanged issuance rate.
- Investing.com displayed ZEC at 1,254.53 US dollars when read on November 8, with a market capitalization of 21.26 billion US dollars.
The Zcash price remains in focus after the network's NU7 upgrade activated at mainnet block 3,543,405 on November 5, 2026. The change is technically significant, but its immediate effect on demand for ZEC remains uncertain.
Faster blocks, unchanged supply cap
As The Block reported, NU7 reduces the target interval between blocks from 75 seconds to 25 seconds. Block subsidies were reduced by the same factor, so the faster production schedule does not by itself triple the rate of newly issued ZEC. The number of blocks between halvings was increased, preserving the existing halving schedule and the 21 million ZEC supply cap.
Fee reserve changes incentives
NU7 also activated the Network Sustainability Mechanism. Sixty percent of each block's transaction fees is removed from circulation and stored in a public reserve, while miners receive the remaining 40%. The reserved fees are scheduled for gradual reissuance through block rewards beginning at block 8,939,664, which is expected to occur in 2031, according to The Block.
The upgrade also disallows version 4 transactions. Because the original Sprout shielded pool relies on that format, approximately 12,224 ZEC remaining there became unspendable at activation. Node operators needed to update their software to remain on the consensus chain, while most wallets did not require significant changes.
Market data and investor context
When the Investing.com Zcash page was read on November 8, 2026, it displayed ZEC at 1,254.53 US dollars. The same page showed a 24-hour trading volume of 757.42 million US dollars, a market capitalization of 21.26 billion US dollars and a rank of nine. These are displayed market data rather than a verified UTC day-close comparison.
The Zcash price therefore reflects two separate questions for investors: whether faster confirmations improve practical network usage and whether the fee reserve strengthens long-term security economics. The upgrade preserves supply constraints, but it does not automatically create new demand for ZEC. Traders may also continue to assess execution, wallet compatibility and the market's response after a scheduled event.
