Citi cuts target for James Hardie stock to AUD 42.50
Published on 10/05/2026 at 00:42 | Editorial responsibility: Rafael Müller, Editor-in-Chief AD HOC NEWSJames Hardie (AU000000JHX1) faces a lower Citi valuation after the bank cut its price target from AUD 49.80 to AUD 42.50 on September 28, 2026. Markets Insider reported that analyst Samuel Seow also downgraded the stock from Buy to Neutral, citing a more balanced risk and reward profile ahead of fiscal 2027's second half.
Citi trims the valuation
The new AUD 42.50 target is AUD 7.30 below the former AUD 49.80 target, a reduction of 14.66 percent. Citi's assessment therefore places more weight on execution and the uncertain second half of fiscal 2027 than on the company's longer-term synergy plan.
The target cut followed a strong first quarter, but it also highlights the gap between operating delivery and near-term valuation expectations. James Hardie's stock market value was USD 14.5 billion on October 2, 2026.
Revenue jumps in fiscal 2027
James Hardie generated USD 1.47 billion of revenue in the first quarter of fiscal 2027, up 64.00 percent from the same quarter a year earlier, according to MarketBeat. The comparison is affected by the combination with AZEK, yet the reported increase shows the scale of the enlarged business.
At its September 15, 2026 Investor Day, James Hardie said it expected USD 125 million of cost synergies one year ahead of schedule and kept USD 500 million of revenue synergies on track. The company also raised its fiscal 2027 free cash flow target while reaffirming sales and adjusted EBITDA guidance, according to James Hardie.
Prior close sets the market reference
The prior close at Lang & Schwarz was EUR 22.40 on October 2, 2026. James Hardie also carried a 52-week range of USD 16.46 to USD 31.43 and a market capitalization of USD 14.5 billion as of October 2, 2026, giving the analyst revision a valuation context without mixing currencies.
