- The customer base expanded across both water and sewage services in the third quarter.
- A national tariff consultation gives investors an additional regulatory focus.
Copasa reported stronger operating volumes for the third quarter on October 9, 2026, with measured water volume rising 1.1% year over year to 174.5 million cubic meters and sewage volume increasing 3.6% to 123.8 million cubic meters, according to MarketScreener.
The utility also expanded its customer base. Water units increased 1.5% from a year earlier, while sewage units rose 2.5%, supporting the volume trend even as the average consumption period changed little.
Tariff rules remain an investor focus
Copasa has also submitted proposals to Brazil's National Water Agency on draft rules for water and sewage tariff reviews. The company proposed limiting the annual Factor X application to 1% and argued that predictable regulation would help preserve investment capacity, reported El Fondo. Copasa and Sao Paulo-based Sabesp both opposed double-counting efficiency gains in the tariff framework.
Brazilian water utility with regional scale
Copasa supplies drinking water and provides sewage collection and treatment, urban cleaning and solid-waste services in Brazil. Together with its subsidiaries, the company holds concessions in about 75% of municipalities in Minas Gerais and serves approximately 11.9 million people, including about 8.8 million with sewage services, according to MarketScreener. Its regional focus in Minas Gerais distinguishes it from Sabesp, the large Sao Paulo utility, while Copasa remains a specialized public-services operator within Brazil's water-utility sector.
