- Federal Bank reported record quarterly profit for the second quarter of fiscal 2027, supported by stronger interest and fee income.
- Gross and net non-performing loan ratios reached decade lows as advances and deposits continued to grow.
- Digital banking, retail lending and services for small businesses remain central to the bank's operating strategy.
Federal Bank reported record net profit of INR 1,386.09 crore for the quarter ended September 30, 2026, according to Fortune India. The private-sector lender said the result was its highest quarterly profit, with net interest income rising to INR 3,153.40 crore and fee income reaching INR 1,167.71 crore.
Core income drives quarterly growth
Total business crossed INR 6.4 lakh crore, while gross advances exceeded INR 3 lakh crore. Deposits increased 18.61% year over year, and current-account and savings-account balances grew 22.56% to INR 1,09,803.15 crore.
Net interest margin expanded to 3.32% from a year earlier. Other income reached INR 1,490.44 crore, while the bank's operating profit rose to INR 2,225.37 crore.
Credit quality reaches decade lows
Gross non-performing assets declined to 1.32%, while net non-performing assets fell to 0.17%. Fresh slippages dropped 27.48% year over year, and the provision coverage ratio excluding technical write-offs rose to 86.78%. The bank also reported a credit cost of 0.31%.
The combination of faster core income growth and lower impaired-loan ratios gives investors two central indicators to monitor in coming quarters: whether loan expansion can remain ahead of funding costs and whether credit quality can stay at the newly improved levels.
Digital banking supports wider reach
Federal Bank describes itself as a personal, non-resident Indian and business banking partner serving customers across urban and rural India. Its offering includes deposits, loans, credit cards, gold loans and digital banking services, with a stated focus on underserved customers and small businesses, according to the bank's company profile. In India's private-sector banking market, its competitive set includes HDFC Bank, ICICI Bank and Axis Bank, while Federal Bank positions itself around digital delivery, relationship banking and selected retail, business and non-resident segments. That positioning gives it a more focused profile than the largest nationwide private-sector lenders while retaining exposure to several major banking businesses.
