- Plant revenue increased as major domestic and overseas projects entered full operation.
- Seoul redevelopment projects and new orders provide potential support for the construction portfolio.
GS Engineering & Construction reported provisional third-quarter results on October 30, with operating profit and revenue both below the year-earlier level. The figures and business breakdown were reported by The Asia Business Daily.
Housing Weakness Weighs On Results
Consolidated operating profit for the quarter was KRW 95.5 billion, down 35.7% from a year earlier. Revenue declined 14.5% to KRW 2.7442 trillion, reflecting weaker activity in the domestic housing market.
The Architecture and Housing Division generated KRW 1.4997 trillion in revenue, down 18.7% year over year. The Infrastructure Division contributed KRW 343.7 billion, while the Plant Division recorded KRW 457 billion, an increase of 34.6% as major domestic and overseas projects moved into full operation.
Orders Provide A Potential Offset
Third-quarter new orders totaled KRW 395.84 billion. The order intake included the Yongsan Munbae-dong mixed-use development and the Namyangju Wangsuk 2 A8 and 12BL private-participation project.
GS Engineering & Construction also reported approximately KRW 5.5 trillion in urban-renewal contracts secured through the third quarter. The company was selected as preferred bidder for additional Seoul projects, including the reconstruction of Mokdong Complex 12 and the Yeouido Eunha and Samik apartment complexes. Preferred-bidder status is not the same as a completed contract and should therefore be viewed as a potential future order source rather than booked revenue.
Investor Context
The results point to a mixed operating picture: housing remains under pressure, while plant activity and redevelopment opportunities provide areas of support. The provisional nature of the figures also means that the final reported results may differ.
