- Hua Nan Financial Holdings approved a plan to combine its investment trust arm with three state-owned peers.
- First Securities Investment Trust is expected to remain the surviving entity, subject to regulatory approval.
- The combined business would seek scale benefits through broader products and shared distribution networks.
Hua Nan Financial Holdings is part of a planned consolidation of four state-owned investment trust businesses in Taiwan. The boards of Hua Nan, First Financial Holding, Mega Financial Holding and Taiwan Cooperative Financial Holding approved the plan on October 22, according to Taipei Times in a report published October 23, 2026.
First Securities would survive
Under the proposal, First Securities Investment Trust would absorb Mega International Investment Trust, Taiwan Cooperative Securities Investment Trust and Hua Nan Investment Trust. The planned effective date is January 1, 2028, but the transaction remains subject to regulatory approval.
First Securities Investment Trust was identified as the surviving entity because of its larger asset base and stronger operating performance. The parent companies would hold stakes of 50.3 percent, 30.4 percent, 9.8 percent and 9.5 percent respectively in the combined firm.
Scale is the strategic rationale
The proposed combination is intended to lower operating costs, improve the use of distribution networks and broaden the range of investment products. Management also said the larger platform could support competition for Taiwan's role as a regional asset management hub.
The combined entity is expected to manage about TWD 500 billion in assets, including publicly offered funds and discretionary mandates. The four businesses' publicly offered fund assets would rank the merged firm around 12th among Taiwan's investment trust companies, according to the newspaper.
What investors should monitor
For Hua Nan shareholders, the immediate issue is execution rather than a completed transaction. Regulatory review, the integration of funds and the protection of customers and employees remain important conditions before the planned closing date. The companies said existing customer rights would remain protected under applicable regulations.
