Industrial Bank stock enters a recovery debate after nine-month revenue growth turned positive. Profit fell as margins and provisions weighed on results.

Revenue recovers, profit remains under pressure

  • Industrial Bank's nine-month revenue growth returned to positive territory after a decline in the first half.
  • Lower funding costs and stronger non-interest income supported the recovery.
  • Net interest income, provisions and retail credit risks remained key pressures.
  • Analysts expect further earnings improvement if margins stabilize and fee income stays resilient.

Industrial Bank's revenue growth turned positive in the first nine months of 2026, while the decline in profit narrowed. The figures followed the bank's release of its third-quarter report on October 29, according to a Citic Securities analysis published by Futu.

Operating income reached RMB 161.582 billion for the January-to-September period, up 0.22 percent year over year. Net profit attributable to shareholders fell 3.79 percent to RMB 60.691 billion, an improvement from the 4.66 percent decline reported for the first half.

Fees offset pressure on lending income

Non-interest income provided the main support for revenue. It rose 5.52 percent year over year to RMB 53.051 billion, while fee and commission income increased 4.18 percent to RMB 20.921 billion. Wealth-management sales and custody services were identified as important contributors.

Net interest income declined 2.2 percent to RMB 108.531 billion as lower asset yields and changes in the business mix weighed on lending returns. The bank's net interest margin was broadly stable as lower deposit costs helped offset pressure on asset yields.

Credit risks remain in focus

Industrial Bank's non-performing loan ratio stood at 1.08 percent in the third quarter, unchanged from the previous quarter. The loan-loss reserve coverage ratio fell to 222.7 percent, while provisioning pressure eased compared with the second quarter.

Retail lending and credit cards remain areas for monitoring. The analysis said that a more cautious risk classification of some credit-card customers had increased provisions earlier in the year, while the slower pace of provisioning in the third quarter helped limit the profit decline.

Industrial Bank describes itself as a modern commercial bank with operations spanning corporate and retail banking, investment banking, wealth management and other financial services. The bank was established in Fuzhou, Fujian, and is listed on the Shanghai Stock Exchange, according to its investor-relations information.
