- KGM and Hooshi Partners will calculate component emissions and verify supplier information.
- The pilot covers steel and aluminum inputs for vehicles exported to Europe.
- Investors will watch whether the system limits future compliance costs and supports export competitiveness.
KG Mobility announced on October 20, 2026, that it had signed a memorandum of understanding with carbon-management firm Hooshi Partners to prepare its parts supply chain for possible European Union carbon rules. The Herald Business reported that the agreement covers emissions calculations by component, supplier data collection and verification, and the future management of CBAM certificate costs.
Supply chain faces regulatory pressure
KGM has worked with Hooshi Partners since July on a pilot covering raw-material inputs, production energy use and origin records from suppliers of steel and aluminum used in vehicles exported to Europe. The companies have calculated embedded emissions for individual products and plan to extend the framework to additional components and suppliers.
The EU's Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism currently covers six product groups, including steel and aluminum. The Herald Business said the EU is pursuing an expansion to some processed goods, including automotive components with high steel and aluminum content, while the final list remains subject to legislation. If suppliers cannot provide actual emissions information, importers may face country-specific default values and related surcharges.
Exports remain central to KGM
The initiative matters because KGM is relying on overseas sales while domestic demand remains under pressure. According to Seoul Economic Daily, KGM sold 2,100 vehicles at home and exported 6,763 in September. Overseas sales rose 3.5 percent year over year, but total sales fell 16.7 percent to 8,863 vehicles.
