- Analysts expect credit growth, FCNR deposit deployment and lower credit costs to support earnings.
- Axis Securities sees potential for stronger returns on assets and equity through fiscal 2029.
- Kotak Mahindra Bank reported solid second-quarter operating metrics, including a 22.4% capital adequacy ratio.
Kotak Mahindra Bank shares reached a record high on Thursday, October 29, as improving growth prospects and expectations for stronger earnings lifted investor sentiment. The Economic Times reported that the shares closed at INR 457 on the BSE, up 3.86 percent from the previous close, after touching INR 460 intraday.
Analysts see room for recovery
The report said analysts expect earnings to improve as credit growth accelerates, funds raised through foreign-currency non-resident deposits are deployed and higher lending rates pass through. Better asset quality, lower credit costs and improved cost ratios are also expected to support profitability.
Axis Securities expects Kotak Mahindra Bank to deliver a return on assets of 2.1 to 2.2 percent and a return on equity of 12 to 14 percent over fiscal 2027 to fiscal 2029. The brokerage said those measures would place the bank second among large private-sector lenders, behind ICICI Bank.
Quarterly foundation remains solid
Kotak Mahindra Bank's investor-relations page reports consolidated second-quarter profit after tax of INR 5,645 crore and customer assets of INR 699,250 crore. Standalone deposits reached INR 651,491 crore, while the net interest margin stood at 4.31 percent.
The bank also reported a 22.4 percent capital adequacy ratio, a 22.1 percent common-equity tier-one ratio and annualised returns on assets and equity of 2.10 percent and 11.70 percent, respectively. These figures give investors a reference point for assessing whether the expected recovery in growth can translate into more durable profitability.
