Largan Precision stock slips as lens yields pressure margins

- Largan's latest quarterly results showed weaker revenue, profit and gross margin.
- Rising component costs and smartphone lens yields are weighing on Apple-linked suppliers.
- New data-center optics capacity offers a potential longer-term diversification route.
Largan Precision came under pressure on Tuesday, November 3, after a Reuters-sourced report published by Investing.com said the Taiwan-based optical-components maker faced weaker profitability. The report said Largan shares declined 4.2 percent as Apple-linked suppliers reacted to rising component costs and mixed earnings.
Quarterly profitability weakens
Largan's revenue fell 11.5 percent and net profit declined 27.7 percent, according to the report. Gross margin dropped to 42.21 percent, described as a 13-year low, as lower yields on new smartphone camera lenses and higher energy costs weighed on production economics.
The pressure comes as the smartphone supply chain receives mixed signals from Apple. Apple's September-quarter iPhone revenue increased 17.5 percent year on year to 57.6 billion US dollars, helped by demand for the iPhone 18 Pro. At the same time, Apple forecast a December-quarter gross margin of 45 to 46 percent, below the earlier 47.9 percent level, as memory costs rise.
Optics remain the core focus
Largan's latest figures leave investors focused on whether yields improve and whether premium smartphone demand can offset cost inflation. The company remains exposed to handset launch cycles and customer sourcing decisions, making margin recovery more important than headline demand alone.
Its Taiwan listing, ticker 3008, closed at 4,945 TWD on Tuesday, November 3, at 13:30 Taipei time, according to the latest market quotation. The move was reported separately from the company's earnings pressures and does not establish a causal link between the two.
Business model and competition
Largan Precision manufactures precision optical components and is based in Taichung, Taiwan. Its main exposure is to smartphone camera lenses and related optical products. It operates as a specialist in the optical-component niche alongside broader Apple-linked suppliers such as LG Innotek and Luxshare Precision, without the sources establishing a market ranking.
