Lotte Chilsung Beverage is expanding its Captain Q revival after the liquor's first limited-edition release sold out within a day. Seoul Economic Daily reported on October 30 that all 12,000 Captain Q Treasure Chest sets supplied on a factory-shipment basis had sold out.

The company is following the launch with 30,000 Broken Captain Q Time Machine sets, 2.5 times the initial volume. Each package contains two bottles, a sleep mask and a door-hanger card, with sales starting at independent supermarkets before expanding to Lotte Mart, Lotte Super and Nonghyup outlets.

Nostalgia meets wider distribution

Captain Q returned on October 14 after an 11-year absence. The original product launched in 1980 and was discontinued in 2015, while the relaunch uses a green bottle design and a new recipe based on Caribbean rum aged in bourbon and Pedro Ximenez sherry casks.

The early response extended beyond the limited sets. Seoul Economic Daily said 7-Eleven's 1,300 prepared sets sold out through pre-orders, while Lotte Mart sold about 99 percent of its launch-day allocation. Those figures point to strong initial consumer interest, but the larger follow-up run will test whether demand persists once availability broadens.

A diversified beverage portfolio

According to Barron's, Lotte Chilsung Beverage manufactures and distributes soft drinks and liquor. Its portfolio includes carbonated drinks, juice, coffee, tea, functional beverages and spring water alongside brands such as Chilsung Cider, Pepsi-Cola, Cantata and HOT6ix. The company competes with more focused Korean beverage and liquor groups including HiteJinro Holdings, Muhak and Bohae Brewery, giving Lotte a broader category mix than those listed peers.
