- Marcopolo is preparing a European expansion after weaker-than-planned Brazilian bus sales.
- The company will initially supply Europe from Brazil and build local after-sales capabilities.
- International operations are becoming more important as Brazil's bus market slows.
Marcopolo is preparing a 2027 expansion in Europe after domestic coach and city-bus sales in Brazil fell short of expectations in 2026. According to El Fondo, the Brazilian manufacturer has already sold 30 G8 coaches for the European market.
European Rollout Starts Gradually
The report, published on October 20, 2026, said Marcopolo will begin with vehicles manufactured in Brazil, an after-sales network and a local team. Spain, Italy, France and Portugal are the initial target markets, with deliveries already scheduled for 2027 in Italy, France and Portugal.
The G8 is built on a Volvo chassis with engineering adaptations and local components. More than 10,000 units have been sold across more than 20 countries since the model was launched in 2021. A European plant remains dependent on the pace of sales, according to chief executive André Armaganijan.
International Sales Gain Weight
International operations generated 45.4 percent of Marcopolo's revenue in 2025, compared with 36.3 percent in 2024. Brazilian exports reached BRL 1.14 billion, while overseas factories billed BRL 2.96 billion. The company reported consolidated 2025 revenue of BRL 9.06 billion and net profit of BRL 1.23 billion.
That international push is taking place as high interest rates and higher diesel costs weigh on Brazil's domestic bus market. In the second quarter of 2026, global production increased 8 percent to 4,105 vehicles, supported by a 120.4 percent rise in micro-buses. Revenue grew 3 percent to BRL 2.37 billion, while the EBITDA margin narrowed to 14.3 percent from 17.3 percent.
Business Model And Market Reach
Marcopolo is headquartered in Caxias do Sul, Brazil, and manufactures intercity, urban and micro-buses as well as bus bodies, parts, components and accessories. Its industrial activities also include automotive components, refrigeration and air-conditioning equipment, polyurethane products and related technical services, while its international operations span several regions. The company is using its Brazilian manufacturing base and overseas footprint to pursue a broader position in bus markets beyond Latin America.
