Dividend growth meets investment demands

  • Moneycontrol reports that Mphasis dividend payouts have grown faster than consolidated profit through FY26.

Mphasis is facing renewed investor scrutiny over capital allocation after a Moneycontrol analysis published on November 3, 2026 said dividend payouts have outpaced profit growth while operating cash flow weakened. The report said Blackstone promoter entities received INR 3,270 crore in gross Mphasis dividends from FY20 through FY26, including an estimated INR 361 crore for FY26.

Payouts outpace earnings growth

Moneycontrol said Mphasis total dividend payments rose from approximately INR 653 crore in FY20 to an estimated INR 1,183 crore in FY26. Consolidated profit increased from INR 1,185 crore to INR 1,863 crore over the same period, leaving the FY26 dividend payout at 63.5 percent of consolidated profit, compared with 55.1 percent in FY20.

Mphasis told Moneycontrol that its dividend payout ratio has remained broadly consistent at about 60 percent of net income, apart from a special dividend in FY21. The company also said dividend decisions consider earnings, liquidity, retained earnings, growth investments and strategic funding needs rather than applying a fixed mechanical formula.

Cash flow and AI investment

The pressure point is operating cash generation. Moneycontrol reported that consolidated operating cash flow declined from INR 2,180 crore in FY24 to INR 1,905 crore in FY25 and INR 1,253 crore in FY26. Mphasis said FY26 was an outlier because investments in customer contracts had a frontloaded impact and that cash flow could normalise in FY27.

The company is simultaneously investing in AI platforms and capabilities. Its FY26 annual report said AI-led opportunities represented 69 percent of the pipeline, while Moneycontrol cited brokerage estimates that Mphasis was investing about 1.5 percent of revenue in AI platforms. The competing demands leave investors weighing near-term distributions against the funding required to maintain competitiveness as AI changes IT services.
