Rent the Runway stock expands into luxury handbag rentals

Rent the Runway launched a luxury handbag rental pilot on November 2, giving eligible Icon members access to a curated collection of hundreds of styles from more than 20 designer brands, according to the company's GlobeNewswire announcement. The pilot adds a broader luxury-accessories proposition to the fashion-rental platform.

New category starts with limited access

The initial assortment includes new, pre-loved and vintage handbags sourced through luxury and resale channels. Members can rent a bag for 30 days at a price that varies by style, with Rent the Runway saying it is working with third-party authentication providers for additional checks.

Access is initially limited to eligible Icon members through the company's website and app. Active subscribers and new customers can join a waitlist as Rent the Runway considers whether to expand availability. The announcement did not provide a revenue target or forecast for the pilot, leaving customer adoption and its financial contribution as developments for later updates.

Business model spans fashion access

Rent the Runway is a US fashion platform that offers subscription programs, one-off rentals and resale through its Closet in the Cloud, according to its investor relations site. The company connects customers with hundreds of designer brands across occasion wear, ready-to-wear, accessories and other wardrobe categories.
