- Revenue and operating EBITDA increased in the September quarter as Trent expanded its fashion retail footprint.
- Zudio, Westside and Star remain central to the group's multi-format retail strategy.
- Investors will focus on store productivity, margins and the transition to a new chairman.
Trent reported a 25% year-on-year increase in consolidated profit after tax to INR 468 crore for the quarter ended September 30, 2026. Revenue from operations rose 22% to INR 5,873 crore, while operating EBITDA increased 37% to INR 785 crore, according to Business Today.
Retail growth remains broad-based
The September-quarter performance covered Trent's consolidated businesses and followed continued demand for affordable fashion. The company also said revenue from its Star business grew by more than 20% during the quarter.
Trent opened 17 Zudio stores and 10 Westside outlets during the period. Its fashion portfolio reached 1,342 stores as of September 30, compared with 1,101 a year earlier, while the company said its footprint covered 339 cities, including three in the United Arab Emirates.
The 1,000th Zudio store opened during the quarter. Trent also operated 87 Star stores across 13 cities after adding one location, according to the company information carried by Business Today.
Margins and store productivity matter
Reuters, in a report carried by Marketscreener, said the result reflected sustained demand for affordable fashion even as inflation weighed on discretionary spending and some festive purchases shifted toward December. The report also cited analysts who cautioned that revenue growth among value-fashion retailers was being driven substantially by new store openings rather than stronger sales at existing locations.
That makes store productivity, inventory management and sourcing costs important indicators for the next quarters. Reuters also reported that Trent's fashion business competes with Vishal Mega Mart, V-Mart Retail and Reliance Trends in lower-cost retail, while Shoppers Stop and H&M compete in premium apparel.
Chairmanship change adds a governance angle
Trent's board has appointed Bahram Vakil as chairman from November 12, 2026. Noel Tata is due to retire as chairman and director at the close of business on November 11, adding a leadership transition to the operating expansion story.
Trent's retail model
Trent is headquartered in Mumbai, India, and operates fashion, value-fashion and grocery formats. Its official company profile says Westside sells in-house labels across apparel, footwear, beauty, accessories and home decor, Zudio focuses on affordable in-house fashion, and Star Market offers groceries, fresh products and own-brand ranges.
The company competes across several retail segments rather than relying on one format. Vishal Mega Mart, V-Mart Retail and Reliance Trends are named competitors in value fashion, while Shoppers Stop and H&M operate in premium apparel, giving Trent a broad but competitive market position.
