Fleet expansion and shipping exposure

  • U-Ming is expanding its dry-bulk fleet while retaining exposure to other maritime transport segments.
  • The new vessels are scheduled for delivery from 2029 through 2030.
  • The investment adds long-term capacity but also increases capital commitments in a cyclical shipping market.

U-Ming Marine Transport is expanding its fleet after committing up to 312 million US dollars for six bulk carriers in China, according to Splash247. The report, published on October 5, 2026, said the plan includes two 211,000 dwt Newcastlemax vessels and four 64,000 dwt Ultramax vessels.

The two larger ships are priced at 77 million to 80 million US dollars each, while the four Ultramax vessels are priced at 35.5 million to 38 million US dollars each. The first Ultramax is scheduled for delivery in the fourth quarter of 2029, with the remaining three due in 2030.

Long-term capacity commitment

The orders extend U-Ming's dry-bulk renewal and expansion plan. Splash247 said the company was targeting a fleet of more than 100 vessels at its May investor presentation, while its owned, joint-venture and newbuilding fleet had reached around 90 vessels and more than 10 million dwt at the end of September.

The expansion gives U-Ming additional exposure to dry-bulk freight demand over the next cycle, but the contracts also commit capital several years before delivery. Freight rates, vessel values and financing conditions will remain important variables for future returns.

U-Ming Marine Transport stock traded at 70.10 TWD on Taiwan's market at 9:28 a.m. Taipei time on Wednesday, November 4, 2026. The quote is a current Taiwan-market price and is not presented as a euro-denominated Lang & Schwarz or Xetra comparison.
