- UBE Corporation Europe reported lower sales and a net loss for fiscal 2025.
- Integration costs and the closure of a cyclohexanone plant weighed on earnings.
- Management expects fertilizers and specialty products to support the current fiscal year.
UBE Corporation Europe reported a fiscal 2025 net loss of 8.5 million euros on October 8, as margin pressure, industrial restructuring and the integration of new businesses weighed on the Japanese chemicals group. Valencia Plaza reported that the European subsidiary generated 467 million euros in consolidated sales, down from 510 million euros a year earlier.
Restructuring weighs on earnings
Adjusted operating performance remained positive, with EBITDA of 14.4 million euros compared with 14.8 million euros in the previous fiscal year. The bottom line nevertheless deteriorated from a 4.3 million euro loss, reflecting the cost of transformation projects, tight commercial margins and the closure of a cyclohexanone unit in Castellon.
UBE also completed the acquisition of urethane businesses in the United Kingdom, the Netherlands and Italy. Integration is expected to continue through 2027, while management said the workload currently limits the scope for another large-scale transaction.
Fertilizers offer a recovery path
Management expects the fertilizer business to support the current fiscal year. The company invested 20.4 million euros during fiscal 2025 and plans to exceed 100 million euros in cumulative investment through 2030, with spending focused on plant upgrades, efficiency and more specialized products.
UBE Corporation develops chemicals, construction materials and machinery from its headquarters in Tokyo, Japan. Its chemicals portfolio spans engineering plastics, synthetic rubber, polyimide, caprolactam, nylon, battery materials, fine chemicals and pharmaceutical manufacturing services, while its other divisions supply cement products and industrial machinery to international markets.
