While its U.S. oil operations continue to generate reliable cash flows, Deutsche Rohstoff AG has announced a pivotal achievement within its metals strategy. Its investment, Almonty Industries, has successfully completed the first phase of the Sangdong tungsten mine in South Korea. This progress brings the goal of reducing reliance on Chinese supplies for this critical metal significantly closer.

Financial Strength and Market Performance

The operational advancement is supported by a robust financial base. Based on preliminary figures for the 2025 fiscal year, the company generated an EBITDA of 132 million euros, hitting the upper end of its forecast range. The steady income streams from its assets in the Powder River Basin provide the foundation for its ongoing expansion in the metals sector.

Investors have responded positively to these developments. The stock has gained nearly 73 percent since the start of the year, trading at 86.10 euros on Monday. This price level remains well above its 200-day moving average of 48.18 euros and is close to its 52-week high.

The Geopolitical Significance of Sangdong

The Sangdong mine is considered one of the most significant tungsten projects located outside of China. With an estimated mine life exceeding 45 years and an above-average ore grade of 0.51 percent tungsten trioxide, the site's future profitability is underscored. Once it reaches full production capacity, the mine is projected to supply approximately 40 percent of the global tungsten demand originating from outside China.

Rising demand from the defense sector and high-tech industries adds considerable geopolitical weight to the deposit. For the Heidelberg-based company, tungsten stands alongside oil and gas as a core strategic focus area.

Broader Sector Tailwinds

Beyond the company-specific news, the entire resource sector is benefiting from new European initiatives. Spain recently announced an investment program worth 414 million euros targeting critical raw materials. Such state-backed support reinforces the market trend toward securing local supply chains—a trend Deutsche Rohstoff positioned itself in early.

The company is scheduled to release its full 2025 consolidated financial statements and annual report on April 22, 2026. This publication will provide detailed insight into how management plans to prioritize and enhance the value of its metals portfolio moving forward.
