Institutional investors rarely rush into a stock that has halved in a year, but Accenture is proving an exception. Sequoia Financial Advisors expanded its holding by 197.2% in the fourth quarter, snapping up 93,880 extra shares and betting that a valuation not seen in nearly a decade will eventually reward the patient. The move, disclosed in early May, comes as the IT consultancy simultaneously launches a fresh offensive in the mid-market artificial intelligence arena with Google Cloud.

The timing is striking. Accenture's shares closed Friday at €118.45, down 2.63% on the day and 46.61% lower since January. Over twelve months the loss deepens to 51.94%, with the stock now trading 52.80% below its 52-week high of €250.95 reached at the start of the year. Yet the slide has also brought a dividend hike: Accenture raised its quarterly payout by 10% to $1.63 per share, and with free cash flow of $3.6 billion in the latest quarter, the distribution is comfortably covered. Several financial platforms now tout the stock as a top pick for dividend growth.

A $5 Billion Bond Funds a Cybersecurity Pivot

Acute share-price weakness has not deterred management from pursuing strategic investments. On July 10, Accenture placed a $5 billion bond, the proceeds earmarked for expanding its operational-technology cybersecurity business. The centrepiece is a planned majority stake in Dragos, alongside the ongoing acquisitions of runZero and NetRise. CEO Julie Sweet is leaning on rising demand for AI-powered security tools to offset a sluggish performance in traditional consulting. The need is evident: global cybersecurity spending is set to surpass $300 billion in 2026, and the ratio of AI-agent identities to human identities in corporate networks has already reached 109 to 1 — a dynamic that drives demand for defensive systems.

That same logic underpinned the alliance with Google Cloud announced on July 12. Dubbed a "product bundle" on the Accenture Edge platform, the package combines Google's Gemini Enterprise, the Agentic Data Cloud, and an AI Threat Defense system. It targets companies with annual revenues between $300 million and $3 billion and promises implementation in weeks rather than years. The offering squarely challenges IBM, Microsoft, and Deloitte, all of which are vying for mid-market clients unwilling to commit to multi-year transformation projects.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Accenture?

Earnings and Technicals Paint a Mixed Picture

Despite the brutal share price, the underlying business has shown resilience. Accenture posted an operating profit of $3.18 billion in its most recent quarter, slightly ahead of analyst estimates, even though geopolitical tensions in the Middle East trimmed revenue by roughly $100 million. Management, however, trimmed its full-year local-currency revenue growth outlook to a range of 3% to 4%, a narrowing of earlier guidance.

Chart watchers see both risk and opportunity. The 14-day relative strength index stands at 41.2, a level that is not yet oversold — the classic threshold is 30 — but which some technicians interpret as a sign that selling pressure may be abating. The stock now sits 14.33% above its 52-week low of €103.60 touched in late June, and the 50-day and 200-day moving averages of €138.60 and €186.87, respectively, both lie well overhead. With 30-day annualised volatility at 65.03%, price swings remain extreme.

Analysts Stay Cautiously Optimistic

Wall Street's consensus remains broadly positive despite the rout. Of 25 analysts covering the stock, 14 recommend a buy and the rest advise holding. The average price target of $179.13 implies significant upside from current levels, and individual targets run as high as $275. A growing conviction that the Federal Reserve will cut rates in September has also lifted sentiment across the technology sector, providing a potential tailwind for growth-oriented IT names.

What Comes Next

The immediate catalysts for Accenture are stacked in the week ahead. HCL Technologies reports quarterly results on July 13, offering a fresh benchmark for the IT-services industry. Separately, Tata Consultancy Services added 9,279 staff in the first fiscal quarter — its strongest hiring quarter in four years — fuelling a debate about whether artificial intelligence is reshaping job roles rather than eliminating them.

For Accenture itself, the next earnings release is not due until early October. In the intervening weeks, the stock is likely to be driven by technical rebounds, news flow around the cybersecurity acquisitions, and whether the Google Cloud partnership translates into measurable revenue. IBM has already set a marker with cumulative generative AI bookings of over $12.5 billion as of its fourth-quarter 2025 report in late January. How quickly Accenture can match that pace will determine whether the current bounce off the lows becomes a sustained recovery — or just another dead-cat rally in a stock that has yet to find its floor.
