Allianz SE is channeling billions back to its investors through a dual-track approach of dividends and share buybacks, reinforcing its commitment to shareholder returns against a backdrop of solid operational performance. The company’s ongoing repurchase program is progressing swiftly, with over 100,000 of its own shares acquired in the second week of April alone. Since the program’s launch on March 13, the total volume has reached approximately 1.14 million shares. This initiative, valued at up to €2.5 billion, is scheduled to run through the end of 2026.

The financial engine enabling this capital return remains robust. For the full year 2026, management is targeting an operating profit of around €17.4 billion. This goal follows a 2025 net income of approximately €11 billion, supported by a strong Solvency II capital ratio of 218 percent. The combined effect of dividend payments and share repurchases represents a total capital return volume of roughly €9 billion.

Shareholders have a key date circled on their calendars. Those holding Allianz stock through May 7 will be entitled to a dividend of €17.10 per share, an 11 percent increase from the prior year. The payment will follow on May 12. The annual general meeting on that same date will not only formalize this dividend but also oversee a significant leadership transition. The mandates of Michael Diekmann, Sophie Boissard, and Rashmy Chatterjee will conclude, with Dr. Jörg Schneider proposed to succeed Diekmann as chairman of the supervisory board.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Allianz?

A notable proposal on the meeting’s agenda concerns executive compensation. The board seeks approval to tighten the long-term bonus plan. Future awards would be forfeited if the Allianz share price underperforms the STOXX Europe 600 Insurance Index by more than 25 percentage points over a four-year period, a stricter benchmark compared to the previous 50-point threshold.

The systematic buyback activity is having a tangible impact on the share structure. All repurchased shares are being cancelled, reducing the total number of shares outstanding. Since the end of 2021, the count has fallen from 408.5 million to 380.4 million, a decrease of about seven percent. This reduction effectively increases each remaining shareholder’s claim on the company’s future earnings.

Operational excellence beyond the core insurance business is also contributing to the group's stability. In Austria, the Allianz Pensionskasse recently secured the top position in the Mercer ranking, outperforming peers across all risk categories. Its investment strategy, with a pronounced focus on infrastructure and impact investments, successfully navigated high market volatility to deliver returns well above the industry average.

Market sentiment appears to reflect this steady corporate execution. The Allianz share recently crossed above its 100-day moving average and is currently trading less than two percent below its year-to-date high. Investors will soon receive another key operational update, with the company set to publish its first-quarter 2026 results on May 13.
