The disconnect between Allianz’s market performance and the mood of its potential customers has rarely been starker. The insurer’s stock closed at €421.10 on Monday, just 0.57% shy of a new 52-week high set on July 6, even as the group’s own research shows that financial worry now rivals health concerns globally. In response, Allianz has rolled out a digital education platform called the “School for Life Hub,” designed to improve basic financial literacy among the public.

The initiative comes on the heels of the Allianz/IPSOS “What Worries the World” study, which found that 48% of respondents cite financial insecurity as a top concern — matching the level of health-related anxiety. Only about 5% of the global population feels completely secure about their finances. Separate polling by Allianz Pension Partners revealed that company pension schemes have overtaken home-office allowances as the most sought-after workplace benefit, though access remains uneven: 86% of large firms offer such plans, compared with just 25% of micro-enterprises.

Operationally, Allianz continues to fire on all cylinders. The group posted an operating profit of roughly €4.5 billion in the first quarter of 2026, while its Solvency II ratio stood at a robust 221%. The massive asset base managed alongside subsidiaries PIMCO and Allianz Global Investors underpins a capital position that allows management to return cash generously to shareholders.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Allianz?

The current buyback program is accelerating. By July 6, Allianz had already completed 60% of the total volume, and during the first week of July alone it repurchased nearly 300,000 of its own shares. Since the program began in March, roughly four million shares have been taken off the market, providing steady upward support to the stock.

Yet the technical picture flashes a short-term warning. The 14-day Relative Strength Index stands at 79.0 — well above the 70 threshold that classic chart analysis considers overbought. This elevates the probability of profit-taking, a risk that is amplified by a rotation in European equities. While the DAX set a new closing record of 25,817 points on Monday, insurance and utility stocks in the EuroStoxx 50 lost ground as investors rotated into technology and defence names.

The longer-term trend remains firmly intact. Allianz shares trade 12.21% above their 200-day moving average of €375.27 and have surged 25.74% from the 52-week low of €334.90 recorded on August 1, 2025. Volatility, measured at a 30-day annualised 13.64%, is moderate. The structural tailwinds from rising demand for occupational pensions and private protection against living-cost increases continue to support the core business. The key line in the sand is now the €423.50 level: either the stock reclaims a fresh record, or the overbought RSI triggers a pause before the next leg higher.
