Allianz stock nears all-time high after record Q1 operating profit, but Berenberg's €684 target stands far above consensus. Technical indicators suggest overbought conditions.

Allianz shares brushed a fresh 52-week peak on Wednesday, touching €414.20 before easing slightly to €411.30. The intraday high — reached on 1 July 2026 — places the stock just 0.68% below its all-time high, extending a 12-month rally of roughly 20%. Yet a stark divergence on the Street is drawing attention: Berenberg analyst Michael Huttner reiterated a buy rating with a price target of €684, nearly double the current price and far above the consensus of 18 analysts at €413.90.

The gap between Berenberg and the broader market is unusually wide. Most analysts see limited upside from current levels, arguing that the strong operational performance is already priced in. Huttner’s call, published after recent investor presentations, remains a lonely outlier — but one backed by record-breaking numbers.

Operationally, Allianz delivered a standout first quarter. The group posted an operating profit of €4.5 billion, up 6.6% year-on-year and a company record. Total business volume reached €53.0 billion, with internal growth of 3.5%. The property-casualty segment was a key driver, generating €2.411 billion in operating earnings and an improved combined ratio of 91.0%. The Solvency-II ratio strengthened to 221%, and management reaffirmed the full-year operating profit target of around €17.4 billion.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Allianz?

Alongside the financials, Allianz Trade — the group’s credit insurance arm — announced a partnership with Mastercard targeting digital B2B payments in the travel sector. The collaboration embeds real-time credit insurance into virtual Mastercard transactions. Instead of traditional post-transaction coverage, Allianz Trade will assess default risk during each payment using data from actuary.aero, which converts transaction data into risk signals instantly. If a payment fails, the insurer handles receivables and pays compensation.

The move signals a push to digitise a core specialty business within a fiercely competitive market. Allianz has fully owned Allianz Trade since 2018, and the unit already leads the global credit insurance space. The Mastercard deal extends that leadership into complex, multi-tier value chains. The company has not disclosed the financial impact of the partnership, but the strategic logic is clear: shifting credit protection from a back-office function to a real-time, platform-native feature.

Technically, the stock’s rapid ascent has left it looking stretched. The relative strength index sits at 74.8 in one reading and 71.3 in another — both above the overbought threshold of 70. The share price is roughly 10% above its 200-day moving average of €374.41, a gap that historically signals near-term exhaustion. So far this year, Allianz has gained 6.56%.

With the summer’s next quarterly report still weeks away, the market will watch whether Berenberg’s bold thesis gains any followers — or whether the stock’s technical froth and consensus caution keep the lid on further gains. For now, the operational engine is running at full throttle, and the digital partnership adds a fresh strategic layer to the story.
