Shares of Almonty Industries have surged to a new 52-week high of C$32.07, capping a remarkable rally that has seen the stock climb roughly 30% in a single week and approximately 167% since the start of the year. This momentum is underpinned by a rare and growing Wall Street consensus, with eight analysts now recommending the stock and none advising a sale.

The latest endorsement came from Texas Capital, which initiated coverage with a buy rating on April 16. This move follows similar bullish stances from other firms. DA Davidson holds a price target of US$25, B. Riley Financial targets US$23, and Oppenheimer rates the stock "Outperform" with a fair value estimate of US$19. The average 12-month price target across all analysts stands at C$23.71, with a high individual estimate reaching C$36.

Such unified analyst support is unusual for a resource producer of Almonty's size and speaks to a compelling operational and geopolitical thesis. The company's flagship asset is the Sangdong tungsten mine in South Korea. Phase 1 is now operational, with the processing plant handling about 640,000 tonnes of ore annually to produce roughly 2,300 tonnes of tungsten concentrate. DA Davidson anticipates full commercial operation will be achieved by the second quarter of 2026.

A planned Phase 2 expansion, targeted for 2027, aims to double annual ore capacity to 1.2 million tonnes, yielding approximately 4,600 tonnes of tungsten. At full scale, Sangdong could supply an estimated 40% of global tungsten demand outside of China, which currently controls between 80% and 88% of worldwide production.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Almonty?

This strategic positioning is amplified by a Pentagon mandate requiring US defense contractors to source tungsten exclusively from non-Chinese suppliers effective January 1, 2027. Almonty is already aligned with this shift. The US government has exempted the company's tungsten ores from countervailing duties, a move tied to a long-term supply agreement with Global Tungsten & Powders in Pennsylvania. Furthermore, Almonty plans to restart production at its Gentung Browns Lake project in Montana by the end of 2026, establishing a second supply pillar on US soil. This former Union Carbide site holds a resource of 7.53 million tonnes.

Financially, the company is well-capitalized following a December fundraising, with liquid assets of C$268.4 million. Revenue for 2025 grew 13% to C$32.5 million, driven by a significant rise in tungsten prices.

The stock's dramatic re-rating has ignited a valuation debate. On a price-to-book basis, it trades at a multiple of 22.9, far exceeding the Canadian mining sector average of 3.3 and a peer group mean of 7.2. However, a discounted cash flow model suggests a fair value of C$43.36 per share, indicating the market is pricing future cash flows rather than current book values. Institutional investors appear convinced. In the fourth quarter of 2025, Van ECK Associates increased its position by roughly 13,000% to over 11 million shares, while Encompass Capital and Next Century Growth Investors established new stakes.

Almonty at a turning point? This analysis reveals what investors need to know now.

The immediate catalyst for the stock will be operational proof. The company is scheduled to release its first quarterly production data from Sangdong in May, followed by an annual general meeting on June 8 where updates on the Phase 2 expansion are expected. For investors, the premium valuation hinges entirely on the successful and timely ramp-up of this critical Korean mine.
