Alphabet Inc. shares are trading near their yearly peak, buoyed by a potent mix of soaring cloud profits and an unprecedented capital expenditure plan. The stock's recent strength has prompted analysts at Citigroup to raise their price target to $405 from $390, placing the equity on a 90-day "Positive Catalyst Watch" list ahead of a series of key events.

The optimism is rooted in robust financial performance, particularly within the Google Cloud segment. In the fourth quarter of 2025, cloud revenue surged 48% to $17.7 billion, while the segment's operating margin leapt from 17.5% to 30.1%. The unit's remaining performance obligation, a measure of future revenue, grew by 55% in the quarter to $240 billion. Citi analyst Ronald Josey now forecasts first-quarter 2026 search revenue growth of 16.5% year-over-year and expects Google Cloud revenue to jump 57.5%, projections that sit well above current market consensus.

This fundamental strength is translating into significant stock appreciation. Alphabet's share price has more than doubled over the past twelve months, posting a gain of roughly 103%. The stock currently trades around €282, sitting just over 3% below its 52-week high set in February. Technical indicators, however, suggest the rally may be extended; the Relative Strength Index (RSI) reading above 71 points to a slightly overbought condition.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Alphabet?

The company's ambitions extend far beyond current results. For the full 2026 fiscal year, Alphabet is preparing a massive infrastructure expansion with planned capital expenditures between $175 billion and $185 billion. This figure nearly doubles the prior year's spending and underscores a full-scale offensive to scale artificial intelligence globally. The strategy includes the worldwide rollout of agent-based search features and the deployment of AI agents directly into enterprise networks via Google Cloud.

Product integration is advancing on multiple fronts. On April 14, Google introduced "Skills" for desktop Chrome users, a feature linked to its Gemini AI that allows users to save and reuse prompt workflows across browser tabs. The company reports that over 120,000 businesses are already using Gemini, and its consumer application now boasts more than 750 million monthly active users. Alphabet is also deepening ties with third-party platforms, announcing an expanded partnership with GitLab that enables developer teams to natively integrate Google's Vertex AI models into their workflows.

Wall Street's view on the stock's path forward is mixed. While Citi is bullish, other firms have also adjusted targets upward recently, with JPMorgan at $395 and Scotiabank at $400. Mizuho holds one of the most optimistic outlooks with a $420 price target. Conversely, Wolfe Research lowered its target to $360, and some valuation models point to a fair value of just $237.43, citing a current price-to-earnings ratio of 29.4. The consensus price target among analysts stands at approximately $360.

Investors face a packed calendar of potential catalysts and risks. The Google Cloud Next conference runs from April 22-24, followed by the official first-quarter earnings release on April 29. The developer conference Google I/O on May 19-20 is expected to showcase the latest Gemini 4 AI generation and provide more detail on the colossal annual investment plan. Alongside these operational milestones, the company contends with ongoing antitrust litigation that threatens potential damages of up to $8.3 billion.
