Alphabet is executing a dual-track strategy to fortify its financial future, combining aggressive pricing power with massive investments in artificial intelligence infrastructure. The company's latest move, a significant price hike for YouTube Premium in the U.S., signals a strategic pivot toward monetizing its vast user base more effectively.

For the first time in three years, YouTube subscription costs are rising substantially. The standard Premium plan will increase to $15.99 from $13.99, while the family plan jumps by four dollars to $26.99 monthly. YouTube Music subscriptions are also becoming more expensive. This decision leverages a formidable subscriber base that surpassed 125 million globally last year, promising billions in high-margin, recurring revenue. Investors responded positively, sending Alphabet shares up three percent to 281.80 euros, a weekly gain exceeding seven percent.

This pricing confidence is underpinned by robust financial performance and technological ambition. In Q4 2025, Google Cloud revenue surged 48 percent year-over-year. Total revenue reached $113.83 billion with earnings per share of $2.82, both exceeding Wall Street forecasts. A key structural advantage is Alphabet's use of its own Tensor Processing Unit (TPU) chips, which reduces reliance on expensive third-party graphics hardware. Analysts at Morgan Stanley estimate that for every 500,000 TPUs deployed, Alphabet could generate an additional $13 billion in revenue and $0.40 in EPS.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Alphabet?

The company's AI offensive is expanding on multiple fronts. Following a U.S. beta, Alphabet is launching its Gemini-powered Google Finance platform worldwide. This tool uses AI to provide deeper financial data analysis, turning millions of user queries into valuable insights for its advertising business. In a significant endorsement of its silicon strategy, AI developer Anthropic confirmed it will expand its partnership with Alphabet, planning to use the next generation of TPUs for its models starting in 2027.

Analyst sentiment reflects this complex picture. Mizuho raised its price target to $420 on April 13, citing the potential of the cloud division and reaffirming an "Outperform" rating. Conversely, Stifel slightly lowered its target to $387, pointing to uncertain advertising budgets in a volatile market. The consensus among 51 analysts stands at $345.71 per share.

All eyes now turn to the first-quarter results due on April 29. Analysts expect revenue of approximately $106 billion and a profit of $2.76 per share. The central debate will focus on Alphabet's staggering capital expenditure plan, with management guiding for $175 to $185 billion in 2026, primarily for AI data centers and infrastructure. These investments are expected to pressure free cash flow and operating margins in the near term. The Zacks consensus for full-year 2026 EPS is $11.54, representing an upward revision of 4.7 percent over the past three months.

The quarterly report will be a critical test, revealing whether strong growth in cloud and other segments can offset the immense infrastructure costs and validate the company's high-stakes investment strategy.
