Marvell Technology investors are grappling with an unusual tension: the company’s core business is posting record-level growth, yet its shares have been battered by a selloff that has wiped out nearly 40% in a single month. The stock edged up 2.33% on Monday to €168.96 after closing at €165.12 on Friday, but it remains 41.81% below the all-time high set on June 3, 2026. Over the past 30 days, the decline has reached roughly 39%.

The debate on Wall Street centers on valuation. Marvell currently trades at a non-GAAP earnings multiple between 70 and 80, a stark contrast with the semiconductor industry’s average of about 25. That premium has led some analysts to reconsider their stance. Hans Engel of Erste Group recently downgraded the stock from Buy to Hold, warning that heavy reliance on a handful of large customers makes margins more vulnerable over the long term. Others point to a year-over-year contraction in gross margin and note that operating profit and net income are growing more slowly than revenue.

The technical picture adds a layer of complexity. The relative strength index sits at 36.9, bringing the stock close to oversold territory. For a volatile semiconductor name, such readings have historically preceded short-term rallies — but the annualized 30-day volatility of nearly 97% underscores how quickly sentiment can shift in either direction.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Marvell Technology?

Bulls, however, argue that the fundamental story remains intact. In the first quarter of fiscal 2027, Marvell generated $2.418 billion in revenue, up 27.6% from a year earlier. The data center segment alone contributed $1.833 billion, or 76% of total sales. For the full fiscal year just ended, data center revenue topped $6 billion, a 46% jump that lifted the segment’s share of company revenue to 74%. CEO Matt Murphy has guided for second-quarter revenue of approximately $2.7 billion, representing growth of about 35%, and he has flagged “significant upward revisions” to revenue targets for fiscal 2027 and 2028.

The company is also deepening its reach into key AI infrastructure niches through acquisitions and partnerships. The purchase of XConn Technologies, completed in February, has elevated chiplet connectivity from a niche technology to a central component of the AI data center narrative. Another deal, for Celestial AI, strengthens Marvell’s optical interconnect capabilities. On the memory front, Marvell is collaborating with Micron, Samsung, and SK Hynix on new HBM architectures for AI accelerators.

These moves have prompted several analysts to set aggressive price targets. KeyBanc sees the stock reaching $385, BofA $365, Stifel $350, and UBS $340 — all implying substantial upside from current levels. Yet the average analyst target stands at €220.77, roughly 31.7% above the latest price, reflecting a wide dispersion in views. The consensus among covering analysts remains “Strong Buy,” but the downgrades and sector-wide headwinds — including rising interest rates and fears that cloud providers may curb capital spending on AI — have kept sellers in control.

Marvell’s management is betting that connectivity, not just raw compute power, will define the next phase of AI scaling. As Murphy put it at COMPUTEX 2026, the future of AI scaling hinges on interconnection, and Marvell positions itself as the bridge between custom compute chips and hyperscaler data centers. Whether that story can outweigh the valuation concerns and reverse the steep correction will likely depend on the company’s ability to deliver the elevated revenue guidance in the coming quarters — and on whether the broader market’s appetite for high-multiple tech stocks returns.
