Shares in Cancambria Energy climbed sharply this week as the company confirmed it has entered the final commercial phase of negotiations for a strategic partnership at its Kiskunhalas gas project in southern Hungary. The stock rose 10.24% to €0.21 on Wednesday, building on a 7.61% gain that had earlier lifted the price to €0.20. The move marks a recovery from the 52-week trough of €0.16 set just weeks ago, though the equity still trades well below its 200-day moving average of €0.28.

Political headwinds delayed progress earlier this year. Hungary’s parliamentary elections and subsequent government reshuffle stalled the permitting process, pushing back the timeline. With those hurdles cleared, management is now targeting the signing of a formal term sheet before the end of 2026. The Raiffeisen Bank International is overseeing the process.

Under the proposed structure, a partner would acquire a stake of up to 50% in the Ba-IX mining license, which covers more than 32,000 acres of prospective gas acreage. The technical data review by interested parties has already been completed, and commercial discussions are now underway for an initial binding agreement. CEO Paul Clarke said the alliance will share development risk and accelerate the path to first production.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Cancambria Energy?

The operational timetable envisages the joint venture being closed by the close of 2026. Drilling rigs are then expected to be mobilised in the first quarter of 2027, with first gas flowing as soon as mid-2027. That timeline, if met, would mark a significant inflection point for the junior explorer.

Despite the recent rally, the stock remains more than 50% below its 52-week high of €0.43. The weekly gain now stands at nearly 18%, but investors are waiting for the signature on the partner deal as the next catalyst. A successful term sheet by year-end would provide the clearest signal yet that Cancambria’s Hungarian gas resources are finally on the verge of commercialisation.
