Cardano Bets on 60x Performance Leap to Reignite Interest as Whales Circle and Testnets Multiply

Cardano is placing its biggest technical bet yet. Founder Charles Hoskinson has laid out a sweeping upgrade that would catapult the network’s transaction capacity by a factor of 60, aiming to match the speed of the XRP Ledger. The centerpiece is Ouroboros Leios, a revamp of the consensus mechanism designed to push throughput to around 1,500 transactions per second with finality settling in three to five seconds. The public testnet, dubbed Musashi Dojo, has been running since the end of June, while the mainnet deployment is scheduled for the second half of 2026.
But the grand ambitions contrast sharply with the current market reality. ADA trades at $0.16, down roughly 55% since the start of the year and a staggering 84% off its 52-week high of $1.01. A brief bounce on Friday — the token added nearly 5% — did little to alter the broader picture. On the week, Cardano still managed a gain of about 12%, yet the price remains deep in bear territory.
Whales and wallets signal quiet accumulation
On-chain data tells a different story. Since the most recent market trough, the network has added nearly 15,000 new wallets. Large holders, commonly known as whales, have been steadily increasing their positions, and addresses with significant ADA now control roughly 38% of the total supply. Daily trading volume has climbed to around $660 million. The accumulation suggests that a cohort of big investors sees value at current levels, even as retail sentiment stays tepid.
Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Cardano?
Commercial push and cross-chain bridges
Hoskinson is leaning on execution metrics to change the narrative. A new initiative called Pentad brings in industry heavyweights such as LayerZero and Circle, along with growth-focused developer teams like AlphaGrowth, to build commercial products aimed at boosting locked capital and trade volumes. At the same time, the privacy-oriented partner chain Midnight is constructing a bridge to the seven largest crypto ecosystems, including Bitcoin, Ethereum and Solana. Users from those networks will be able to interact with Cardano’s infrastructure without needing to hold ADA.
A string of testnet milestones
Beyond Leios, several near-term events are lined up. On July 6, the RealFi testnet launches, linking decentralized finance with real-world assets. Another hard fork is approaching to further optimize the protocol. Hoskinson also plans to revise the Cardano constitution, clarifying leadership roles within the decentralized governance structure. The decisive technical milestone remains the activation of Ouroboros Leios on mainnet by the end of 2026.
The real test, however, lies in execution. The new catalysts will only kick in once the underlying testnets generate measurable on-chain activity. For now, Cardano is racing to close the gap between its technological vision and the persistent price slump.
