The Czechoslovak Group (CSG) is accelerating its push toward the upper tier of Europe’s defense industry, combining a NATO-driven share rally with an aggressive raid on its largest competitors’ executive suites. The Prague-based company has lured senior managers from Rheinmetall, BAE Systems and General Dynamics, betting that a professionalized leadership team can help it convert a €17 billion order backlog into sustained growth.

The stock has responded. CSG shares climbed 16 percent over the past seven trading days, closing Monday at €14.97 — a sharp rebound from the 52-week low of €12.20 hit in late June. On a recent session, the stock added another 1.93 percent to touch €14.87, signaling that the broader sell-off that gripped the European defense sector in early summer may be loosening its hold. That sector turmoil forced the postponement of KNDS’s initial public offering, but CSG has proven more resilient, buoyed by both new contracts and the prospect of a structural shift in NATO spending.

The catalyst for the latest leg higher came from Ankara. NATO Secretary-General Mark Rutte, speaking on July 6, demanded that allied nations accelerate the conversion of higher defense budgets into actual production increases. European members and Canada, he noted, have already lifted defense outlays by 20 percent from 2024 levels, to more than $574 billion. A NATO summit on July 7-8 is expected to produce new procurement deals worth tens of billions of dollars, with Rutte singling out fighter jets, air-defense systems, drones and ammunition stockpiles as critical gaps.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying CSG?

CSG’s portfolio covers exactly those weak spots. The company builds land vehicles, weapon systems, defense electronics, unmanned aerial systems and long-range missiles — products that align directly with NATO’s priority list. On the home front, the Czech government of Prime Minister Andrej Babis has pledged to hit the 2 percent of GDP defense target by 2027, adding a layer of national support to the broader European rearmament wave.

The operational figures back up the ambition. CSG can now produce more than 800,000 rounds of large-caliber ammunition annually. Its defense arm posted a 26 percent revenue increase to €1.25 billion, and management is targeting group sales of up to €7.6 billion by 2026. Beyond the existing order book, the company is negotiating additional projects worth €27 billion. Fresh financial details are due in the half-year report scheduled for August.

Despite the recent bounce, the stock remains 58.49 percent below its 52-week high of €36.05 set in January. Technical indicators reflect the uncertainty: the 14-day relative strength index sits at 52.0 — neutral territory — while the share price trails both the 50-day moving average of €15.87 and the 100-day average of €21.30. The 30-day annualized volatility of 56.3 percent underscores that geopolitical headlines can still swing the stock by double digits in a single session. The challenge for CSG now is to turn the rhetoric from Ankara and the talent from its rivals into a sustainable trajectory above those moving averages.
