European defense stocks caught a double tailwind on Wednesday, with Czechoslovak Group riding both a political shift in London and a concrete expansion move in the American Midwest. The Amsterdam-listed ammunition and armored vehicle maker saw its shares close at €16.13, a gain of 9.18 percent on the session, extending a seven-day winning streak that now totals 17.07 percent.

The rally’s immediate catalyst came from an unexpected quarter: British politics. Newly installed Prime Minister Andy Burnham tapped former defense secretary John Healey as chancellor of the exchequer, a move that sent UK defense names sharply higher before the momentum rippled across the continent. BAE Systems added 3.23 percent, Babcock jumped 7.5 percent, and German heavyweights Rheinmetall, RENK, HENSOLDT and TKMS — already lifted the previous day by a Bundeswehr contract award — extended their gains.

But the political spark was only half the story. CSG also had company-specific fuel in the tank. The group announced it is investing up to $15 million in Firecrest Aerospace, a Wisconsin-based firm that will produce turbojet and turbofan engines for drones and defense systems. Production at the Stevens Point facility is slated to begin in 2027, starting with assembly and testing before ramping from low-hundreds to several thousand engines annually. The move deepens CSG’s industrial footprint in the US, where demand for unmanned aerial systems and defense technology is accelerating.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying CSG?

Analysts have taken note. A “Buy” rating with a €25 price target sits on the stock, implying roughly 55 percent upside from Wednesday’s close. Even after the latest surge, the gap between market price and analyst expectations remains substantial.

Not everyone is convinced the rally has legs. IG chief analyst Chris Beauchamp cautioned that Healey, now installed at 11 Downing Street, faces “many competing priorities” and is “not just the defense ministry’s man in the Treasury.” The sector’s structural headwinds also remain unresolved. Bank of America slashed its Rheinmetall price target from €1,770 to €1,300 on July 17, with analyst Benjamin Heelan pointing to a shift in warfare toward drones and precision weapons that undermines the traditional ammunition business.

The broader picture for CSG remains a study in contrasts. The stock is still trading 55 percent below its 52-week high of €36.05, reached in January 2026, though it has recovered 32 percent from the June trough of €12.20. Annualized 30-day volatility hovers near 60 percent, a reminder that the stock has been a wild ride since its blockbuster IPO and subsequent sharp selloff.

For investors, the Wisconsin investment provides a tangible milestone — a mid-2027 production target against which the company’s US strategy can be measured. Whether the current bounce marks a genuine stabilization or merely a pause in a longer downturn will likely depend on the quarterly earnings reports ahead, and on CSG’s ability to convert its bulging order book into reliable profit growth.
