A confluence of catalysts has lifted Deutsche Telekom’s shares from their 2026 lows, with the stock clawing back to trade around €25.88 — a gain of more than 6% over the past week. The rebound draws strength from a bullish analyst call on its US subsidiary, a continuing share buyback, and a top ranking in a German broadband test.

The most potent tailwind comes from across the Atlantic. Bank of America upgraded T?Mobile US to “Buy” this week, setting a price target of $220. The analysts highlighted the carrier’s strong urban positioning, arguing that rivals such as Starlink’s satellite network are hitting technical capacity constraints in dense cities. T?Mobile US is simultaneously preparing to shut down its legacy 2G network in early August 2026, freeing up spectrum that will be redeployed to bolster 5G services. The move is expected to improve both profitability and network quality.

Back in Germany, the Bonn?based operator won back the top spot in the latest fixed?line test conducted by the magazine Imtest, displacing previous leader 1&1. Management attributes the result to years of heavy infrastructure spending, with fibre?optic expansion at the heart of its strategy. Millions of customers now have access to ultra?fast connections.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Deutsche Telekom?

Support from the company itself is also playing a role. Between 29 and 30 June, Deutsche Telekom repurchased 727,344 of its own shares on Xetra, bringing the cumulative total since the programme’s inception to 19,372,365 shares. The board launched the buyback in November 2025 with an overall envelope of up to €2 billion, authorised by the annual general meeting in April 2025. The first two tranches consumed roughly €1.01 billion. The current third tranche, which runs until 30 September 2026, has a ceiling of €560 million and could see up to 23.5 million additional shares acquired.

Despite the recent recovery, the stock remains well below key technical thresholds. The 50?day moving average sits at €27.48 and the 200?day average at €28.74 — both out of reach for now. The relative strength index of around 43 to 44 suggests the shares are neither overbought nor oversold. Year?to?date, Deutsche Telekom is down roughly 7%, and the 12?month decline stands at nearly 17%. The 2026 high of €34.35, set on 27 February, is still a distant 25% above the current price.

Analysts remain broadly constructive, even if some have trimmed their sights. Barclays lowered its price target this week from €39.50 to €36.50 while maintaining an “Overweight” rating, pointing to intense competition in the US market. The consensus target among analysts is still €38.19, implying significant upside from today’s levels.

The next major test for the narrative comes on 6 August, when Deutsche Telekom reports its second?quarter results. Investors will be watching to see whether operational momentum can carry the stock above those stubborn moving averages and sustain the recovery that has taken hold in recent days.
