Deutsche Telekom's Oversold Status Masks Robust Fundamentals

Deutsche Telekom shares are deeply oversold (RSI 28.7) as the market discounts its confirmed financial targets, robust US business, AI push, and shareholder returns via buybacks and dividends.

Deutsche Telekom shares have tumbled into oversold territory, presenting a stark disconnect with the company's confirmed financial targets and operational momentum. The stock has shed nearly 14% over the past month, recently trading around €28.50. This places it not only below its 50-day moving average but also beneath the critical 200-day line at €29.56. With a Relative Strength Index (RSI) reading of 28.7, chart technicians flag the equity as deeply oversold, suggesting the sell-off may be overdone.

Management remains steadfastly focused on its 2026 ambitions, undeterred by the weak market sentiment. CEO Tim Höttges has explicitly reaffirmed the group's full-year guidance. The telecom giant is targeting significant growth across its core metrics, including an increase in adjusted EBITDA to approximately €47.4 billion and a free cash flow of around €19.8 billion. Earnings per share are projected to reach about €2.20. This operational confidence is backed by a continuing share buyback program worth up to $2 billion.

Analysts argue the market is overlooking a crown jewel, particularly the strength of the North American business. Deutsche Bank labels the stock a defensive favorite with a price target of €42, well above current levels. Analyst Robert Grindle points to T-Mobile US, which continues to gain market share and maintain high operational momentum. He suggests the parent company's market valuation almost completely ignores these successes, applying an unjustified risk discount to what he calls an undiscovered "US treasure."

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Deutsche Telekom?

The company is simultaneously advancing its technological footprint. Beyond expanding its business customer segment, Deutsche Telekom is pushing AI integration across services. The newly introduced "Magenta AI Call Assistant" will integrate speech-based AI directly into phone conversations, with a nationwide rollout in Germany planned for later this year. Furthermore, the group is offering "Sovereign AI" cloud solutions, like those recently adopted by utility Thüga, which process sensitive corporate data strictly under European law.

Corporate action provides further support for shareholders. A record dividend of €1.00 per share, which was paid out tax-free to investors in early April, offers a yield cushion. Additionally, the company is actively buying back its own stock. A recent interim report shows that between April 2 and April 10, 2026, Deutsche Telekom acquired over 1.3 million of its own shares for roughly €41 million via the Xetra platform, at an average price of €30.94.

The upcoming earnings season will deliver crucial data points to test the bullish thesis. T-Mobile US is scheduled to report its first-quarter figures on April 28, 2026, which will provide a key read on the US division's health. Subsequently, the group's consolidated Q1 report on May 13 will offer the first concrete evidence of how recent price adjustments for fixed-line legacy tariffs in the home market are performing. Strong results from either front could be the catalyst needed to bridge the gap between the stock's weak price action and its robust underlying fundamentals.
