EnQuest Restructures Debt as Shares Pull Back From Rally

EnQuest has seized the opportunity to refinance its balance sheet, issuing a $675 million bond that runs through 2031 with a high coupon. The move allows the North Sea oil producer to retire existing debt early, buying breathing room as it navigates decommissioning costs and tax liabilities over the next decade.
Fitch has assigned the new notes a "B+" rating, reflecting the company's improved financial flexibility. Management is targeting annual capital expenditure of $100 million, while keeping cash costs per barrel within a range of $25 to $30. With roughly 84% of revenue generated from the North Sea, daily production stands at 43,000 barrels of oil equivalent, backed by proven reserves of 163 million barrels.
The refinancing comes as EnQuest shares experience a sharp correction. The stock slid nearly 8% in the latest session to 19.38 GBX, following a broader pullback that saw it lose over 7% to 19.46 GBX. Despite the recent weakness, the equity has still surged almost 80% since the start of the year, making it one of the standout performers in the UK energy sector.
Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying EnQuest?
Analysts remain bullish on the outlook, with a consensus price target of 22.40 GBX — implying roughly 15% upside from current levels. The most optimistic forecasts reach as high as 28 GBX. The stock's beta sits well below the S&P 500 average, suggesting it is less sensitive to broad market swings.
Over the past twelve months, EnQuest generated $1.12 billion in revenue and approximately $250 million in free cash flow. The company's market capitalisation currently stands at around £359 million. Investors are now eyeing the upcoming quarterly production figures, which will test whether the current valuation is sustainable.
A key date on the calendar is the ex-dividend day in May. For now, the focus remains on operational efficiency and the company's ability to monetise its reserves profitably through to 2031, when the new bond matures.
