Ethereum's Network Hits New Highs as Leadership Shake-Up Continues
19.04.2026 - 03:44:11 | boerse-global.deEthereum's blockchain processed a staggering 200.4 million transactions in the first quarter of 2026, a 43% jump from the previous quarter and more than double the activity seen at its 2023 low. This surge in fundamental strength, however, is unfolding against a backdrop of significant leadership turnover within its core development organization.
Two more senior figures are departing the Ethereum Foundation. Josh Stark, a co-steward in the leadership team and a co-founder of the ETHGlobal hackathon network, will conclude his work at the end of April after five years. He has stated he has no immediate plans to join a new project. In a parallel exit, Trent Van Epps is also leaving. He will continue his work with the Protocol Guild, an independent organization funding 187 core Ethereum developers and researchers. Van Epps had recently publicly criticized the EF leadership's proximity to the controversial Milady NFT collection. These departures follow that of Tomasz K. Sta?czak, who stepped down as co-executive director in late February after less than a year in the role.
The technical roadmap continues to advance despite the personnel changes. The community has two major upgrades planned for 2026: "Glamsterdam" and "Hegotá." The former is progressing, though implementing enshrined Proposer-Builder Separation has proven more complex than anticipated. The latter has defined its core feature as FOCIL, supplemented by work on Account Abstraction. Furthermore, researchers have presented EIP-8222 "Lean Staking," a design aimed at breaking the link between deposit addresses and validator keys at the consensus layer to enable staking privacy.
Network efficiency is a clear driver of adoption. The implementation of EIP-4844 has reduced mainnet transaction fees to between $0.10 and $0.20, with Layer-2 networks costing fractions of that. This fueled a new single-day record of 3.62 million transactions on April 12. The total supply of stablecoins on Ethereum has reached an all-time high of $180 billion, and the network commands a 61% market share in tokenized real-world assets.
Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Ethereum?
Institutional capital is flowing in tandem with this usage. U.S. spot Ethereum ETFs recorded net inflows of $18 million on April 16, marking the sixth consecutive day of positive inflows. Over that period, nearly $300 million entered these products, led by BlackRock's iShares Ethereum Trust. Charles Schwab is introducing direct access to Bitcoin and Ethereum on its platform via "Schwab Crypto," which will be settled through the regulated provider Paxos.
Regulatory developments are also providing a tailwind. On April 13, the SEC clarified the conditions under which DeFi platforms can operate without a broker-dealer license, a move market observers see as structurally positive for the Ethereum ecosystem.
Security remains a critical focus. The Ethereum Foundation's ETH Rangers security program, through its Ketman project, identified approximately 100 North Korean IT operatives who had infiltrated Web3 companies using fake identities. The six-month investigation, described as one of the sector's most detailed of its kind, secured over $5.8 million in misappropriated funds and uncovered more than 785 vulnerabilities. This activity is set against a stark backdrop: North Korean actors are estimated to have stolen around $2 billion from the crypto sector in 2025.
Ethereum at a turning point? This analysis reveals what investors need to know now.
Despite the robust fundamentals, ETH's price reaction has been muted. It currently trades around $2,349, up about 7% on the week and roughly 11% above its 50-day moving average. Yet it remains approximately 18% below its 200-day average and well under its 52-week high of $4,829. Analysts are closely watching the ETH/BTC ratio, noting that a sustained weekly close above the 0.035 level would signal a structural rotation of capital into Ether rather than a short-term rebound. For now, the narrative is one of a powerful network operating at record capacity, even as its guiding foundation navigates a period of transition.
