Heatwaves could cost the German economy around 112 billion euros by 2030, according to Allianz Trade. Productivity drops roughly 3 percent for each degree above 30°C, and sickness absence rises sharply. The German Workplace Ordinance already requires employers to review measures once temperatures hit 26°C; rooms without protective provisions are considered unsuitable above 35°C.
In response, many companies are investing in structured health programs. The Federal Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (BAuA) has released a guide titled "Ergonomics in Industry – But How?", targeting automotive and supplier firms with a step-by-step process for improving working conditions. A major regulatory deadline looms from September 11, 2026, when the Cyber Resilience Act (CRA) takes effect. Companies will have to report actively exploited security vulnerabilities to the European Union Agency for Cybersecurity (ENISA) within 24 hours.
