ITM Power’s stock is drifting deeper into oversold territory, yet the selling has yet to trigger any meaningful rebound. The shares changed hands at €1.22 on Friday, down 0.97% on the day, and have lost 10.70% over the past week and 16.49% over the last month. That puts the equity more than 53% below its 52?week peak of €2.58, set on 29 May 2026 – a slide that has not been halted by a raft of ostensibly positive developments.

The technical picture is deteriorating. The stock now trades well below its 100?day moving average of €1.36, a level that had previously been viewed as a key support zone. The gap to the 50?day average of €1.65 has widened to roughly 26%. The 14?day relative strength index sits at 36.7, edging into the oversold band without yet generating a countermove. Volume data suggests institutional selling has persisted, while the annualised volatility of over 100% underscores the extreme swings that have characterised the name this year.

Against this backdrop, the board has been putting its own money on the line. Chief executive Dennis Schulz and chief technology officer Simon Bourne both participated in the July tranche of the company’s “Buy as You Earn” share purchase plan. The transactions, executed on 15 July, were priced at an average of 112 pence (roughly €1.33) per share. Under the BAYE scheme, ITM Power matches every employee purchase on a one?for?one basis. While such purchases are part of a standing incentive structure, they nevertheless send a signal of insider confidence at a time when the wider hydrogen sector is under pressure.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying ITM Power?

The UK government is also backing the company’s manufacturing ambitions. On 9 July, ITM Power secured a £46.5 million grant from the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero for its next?generation electrolyser stack technology, dubbed “Chronos”. That sum is complemented by a £40 million strategic capital injection from Great British Energy. Together, the funding will support a new automated production line in Sheffield targeting an annual capacity of one gigawatt, with standardised stack designs expected to drive down unit costs.

Analysts, for their part, remain broadly constructive – but with a notable nuance. Berenberg has reaffirmed its price target of 200 pence, implying substantial upside from current levels, and Morgan Stanley has also upgraded its view. Yet the bank’s own fair?value model has actually become less bullish. The calculated fair value has slipped from £1.31 to £1.20 per share, driven by a lower assumed price?to?earnings multiple – now 162.17, down from 186.82 – despite a slight improvement in net margin assumptions (from 5.41% to 5.68%) and a stable revenue growth forecast of 54.96%. The reduction in the discount rate, from 9.92% to 9.72%, was not enough to offset the impact of the lower multiple.

The market’s hesitation ultimately centres on execution risk. ITM Power has raised its revenue guidance for the 2026 financial year to a range of £40–43 million, but investors are waiting for that pipeline to crystallise into firm orders. Two projects are in focus: the Cromarty green hydrogen initiative in Scotland and the Stablegrid partnership in Germany, both of which would deploy the company’s Neptune V and Poseidon electrolyser systems. Until final investment decisions are reached, the gap between government?backed optimism and the speed of commercial delivery is likely to keep the shares under pressure – even as technical indicators flash that a turn may be overdue.
