Despite record revenue, sold-out HBM through 2026, and seven new auto partners, Micron's stock has plunged 33% amid momentum trader rotation. Analysts still see 75% upside.

Micron is pouring $3 billion into its US supply chain, signing up a raft of new auto partners, and has sold every last HBM chip it can make through the end of 2026 — yet its stock has shed nearly a third of its value in under a month. The disconnect between operational momentum and share price has rarely been starker.

The Taiwanese wafer producer GlobalWafers is at the centre of the investment push. Micron is providing $500 million in financing to expand the company's 300-millimetre silicon wafer plant in Sherman, Texas, in exchange for a decade-long supply agreement. These raw wafers are the foundation for advanced memory chips, and with demand surging, Micron is locking in capacity well ahead of need.

At the same time, the chipmaker has added seven automotive tier-one suppliers to its strategic customer list in quick succession: Qualcomm, Visteon, HARMAN, JOYNEXT, DENSO, Astemo and Hyundai Mobis. That brings the total number of long-term auto partnership agreements to 16, following earlier deals with Ford and General Motors. The contracts guarantee Micron a steady pipeline of orders for its increasingly AI-enabled memory solutions, with fixed pricing over extended durations.

The auto push and supply chain investment come against a backdrop of outright capacity tightness. Micron's HBM — high-bandwidth memory — is effectively sold out for calendar year 2026. During the Q3 earnings call, CEO Sanjay Mehrotra described the semiconductor industry as having been "structurally transformed" by the spread of artificial intelligence, adding that the company is still in the "early innings" of what innovation and productivity can unlock. He cited robotics, humanoid robots and fully autonomous vehicles as emerging demand drivers beyond the traditional data centre.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Micron?

The company's financials reflect the boom. Third-quarter revenue hit $41.46 billion, and the fourth-quarter forecast stands at roughly $50 billion. The $3 billion supply chain commitment is designed to support that trajectory.

Yet the market has taken a sharply different view of the stock. Micron closed the latest week at €743.10, down 9.70% in the session alone. That leaves it 32.68% below the 52-week high of €1,103.80, set as recently as 25 June 2026. The 50-day moving average of €828.17 sits well above the current price — a reversal of the pattern that defined most of this year's rally.

The relative strength index of 40.6 signals cooling rather than panic, and the annualised 30-day volatility of 102.75% points less to fundamental distress than to a share that has become a lightning rod for rapid momentum-trader rotation. The stock has more than septupled over the trailing twelve months and is still up 194.76% year to date. Corrections in a parabolic move rarely unfold in a straight line, and the current 25% monthly drawdown fits that pattern.

Micron at a turning point? This analysis reveals what investors need to know now.

Analysts remain broadly bullish, with a consensus price target of €1,298.92 — implying upside of roughly 74.8%. That gap may reflect models that have not fully caught up with the speed of the selloff, or it may indicate the market is pricing in a risk that the Street has yet to quantify. Either way, the tension is acute.

A dividend of $0.15 per share with an ex-date of 6 July 2026 remains a footnote for a growth story defined by cycles and capacity. The coming weeks will test whether the fully booked HBM line and long-term contracts can stabilise sentiment before technical selling exhausts itself — or whether the AI memory super-cycle requires a deeper reset than a single-digit percentage correction from the all-time high.
