A 684% surge in quarterly revenue, a $1 billion AI computing contract, and a stock that still trades 35% below its June high. Nebius is grappling with a disconnect between breakneck operational growth and an increasingly wary investor base, as fears over a potential rival — Meta — overshadow even the biggest customer wins.

The Amsterdam-based cloud infrastructure company this week announced a deal with Reflection AI, granting the startup access to Nebius data centers powered by Nvidia's GB300 processors. The contract, which runs through the end of 2029, is valued at more than $1 billion. Reflection AI, founded by two former Google DeepMind researchers, counts Nvidia itself as an investor. It marks the second major infrastructure agreement for the startup this year, following a multi-year partnership with SpaceX signed in June that carries estimated monthly costs of $150 million.

For Nebius, the Reflection AI win adds another blue-chip name to a client roster that already includes Microsoft and Meta. Yet the market's reaction was muted — shares rose just 1.05% on the day of the announcement to €171.58, after touching a pre-market gain of nearly 3%. The modest move reflects a deeper anxiety that has gripped the stock since mid-June, when it hit a 52-week high of €261.00. Since then, the shares have lost roughly a third of their value, dropping 24% over the past month and 9.4% in the last week alone.

The Meta Overhang

The sell-off was triggered by reports that Meta is developing its own cloud project, dubbed "Meta Compute," and may sell excess capacity to third parties. The news sent a shiver through the so-called neocloud sector, hitting Nebius and rival CoreWeave particularly hard. Nebius is believed to hold a contract with Meta worth around $27 billion, making the social media giant its largest single customer by far. Any move by Meta to replace external compute with in-house capacity would leave a gaping hole in Nebius's revenue pipeline.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Nebius?

Some analysts argue that the fear is overblown. Morgan Stanley, for instance, pushed back against the notion of a capacity glut, forecasting that large cloud providers will nearly quadruple their compute capacity from 31 to 117 gigawatts by 2028, requiring up to $8 trillion in investment. "A market where demand quadruples in three years is not one suffering from oversupply," the bank reasoned. Morgan Stanley's view aligns with that of research firm SemiAnalysis, which sees Meta's build-out as a tailwind rather than a threat for specialist providers like Nebius.

Still, skepticism runs deep. A Seeking Alpha analysis rates Nebius a "Sell," citing heavy capital intensity, dilution risk through convertible debt, and uncertain long-term earnings visibility. The firm warns that the headline 684% revenue growth in the first quarter masks structural issues: $2.5 billion in capex during the quarter alone, high depreciation charges, and a reliance on a handful of large, non-recurring contracts.

A $25 Billion Bet on the Future

Nebius has raised its 2026 capital expenditure target to a range of $20–$25 billion, a breathtaking sum for a company that only generated an annualized revenue run rate of $7–$9 billion at last count. The company's own long-term ambition is to reach $51 billion in annual sales by 2030 — and that's based solely on existing infrastructure plans, excluding any acquisitions.

To fund the build-out, Nebius has already secured more than $6 billion this year through convertible bonds and a Nvidia equity stake. Its cash reserves stand at over $9 billion. But the market is beginning to demand proof that this spending will translate into durable profits, not just more capacity. Most of the new infrastructure is not expected to start generating revenue until the first half of 2027, leaving a gap that keeps investors on edge.

On the operational side, the company's fundamentals remain robust. GPU capacity continues to run ahead of supply, and the new-order pipeline grew 3.5 times quarter over quarter in Q1. More than 75% of Nebius's contracted energy capacity now comes from its own infrastructure, which should support margins in the long run.

Nebius at a turning point? This analysis reveals what investors need to know now.

Technicals Point to Anxiety

The stock's wild swings are captured in an annualized 30-day volatility of over 101%. The relative strength index stands at 40–41 on a 14-day basis, placing it in neutral territory — neither oversold nor overbought. The 50-day moving average of roughly €198 sits more than 12% above the current price, while the 200-day average of €119 is nearly 46% lower, reflecting the stark reversal in sentiment since the June peak.

Despite the recent drubbing, Nebius shares have still gained about 125% year-to-date and more than 270% over the past twelve months. The 52-week low of €43.40, set in July 2025, remains nearly 300% in the rearview mirror.

Wall Street is split but not outright bearish. TipRanks data shows nine analysts covering Nebius with a consensus "moderate buy" — five buys, four holds, and zero sells. The average price target of $252.86 implies upside of roughly 20% from current levels. Whether that upside materializes may depend on Nebius's ability to keep adding blue-chip clients like Reflection AI while convincing the market that Meta's cloud ambitions are a competitive threat more imaginary than real.
