Palantir's Q1 earnings will test its booming US commercial growth. ARK Invest buys $11M in stock as Michael Burry shorts, highlighting a stark Wall Street divide on valuation.

The stark divide on Wall Street over Palantir Technologies is set for a critical examination. On May 4th, the data analytics firm will report first-quarter earnings, with the performance of its US commercial business under an intense spotlight. This segment exploded by 137% in the final quarter of 2025, and management is targeting revenue of over $3.1 billion from it in 2026, representing growth of at least 115%.

Investor sentiment is polarized, embodied by two famous names taking opposing sides. Cathie Wood’s ARK Invest made a decisive move this week, purchasing 85,485 Palantir shares worth approximately $11.15 million across five of its ETFs. Simultaneously, ARK sold about $10.52 million in AMD stock, signaling a strategic rotation into the AI software company. Wood’s buying comes as the stock trades around 35% below its 52-week high of 179.86 euros.

In the other corner stands Michael Burry. The prominent short-seller holds put options on Palantir expiring in December 2026 and June 2027, arguing the company is "wildly overvalued" and losing ground to rivals like Anthropic. Wedbush analyst Daniel Ives has sharply countered this view, calling Burry’s narrative "fictional," maintaining an Outperform rating, and setting a $230 price target.

Despite the impressive growth metrics, Palantir’s valuation remains a persistent concern for the market. The stock is down roughly 19% year-to-date and trades about 36% below its November 2025 all-time high, with a recent price of 115.92 euros. Its price-to-earnings ratio stands at a lofty 203, though based on 2026 estimates, this multiple falls to a still-demanding 99. The 14-day Relative Strength Index of 71.5 suggests the stock is technically overbought in the near term.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Palantir?

Beyond the commercial push, Palantir continues to entrench itself in government work. In a significant development for its defense segment, the AI-powered Maven Smart System was officially classified as a permanent military program in March, ensuring multi-year budget stability. The system now boasts over 20,000 active users, a fourfold increase from a year ago. In Europe, the Coventry City Council in the UK renewed its contract for a second year, increasing its budget from £500,000 to £750,000—a 50% hike—despite public criticism over data security and cost-effectiveness.

The company’s financial foundation shows strength. It ended 2025 with a remaining deal value of approximately $11.2 billion and posted a Rule-of-40 score of 127% in the fourth quarter. It has also recently secured smaller US federal contracts, including a $400,000 deal with the Department of Housing and Urban Development and a $250,000 agreement with the Department of Agriculture.

Looking ahead, Palantir has set an ambitious long-term target, forecasting revenue of up to $7.2 billion for 2026, which would represent growth of about 61% year-over-year. Analyst consensus reflects cautious optimism; among the 21 covering the stock, 14 rate it a Buy, 5 a Hold, and 2 a Sell, with a median price target of $194.61.

Palantir at a turning point? This analysis reveals what investors need to know now.

The upcoming earnings webcast, scheduled for 23:00 CET on May 4th, will be decisive. Investors will scrutinize the momentum in US commercial growth and the margin trajectory of its AI Platform (AIP). The results will either justify the faith of bulls like Wood or lend credence to the skepticism of bears like Burry.
