Record On-Chain Activity Meets New XRP/ RLUSD Pair at Gate, Yet Token Climbs No Higher

Despite record network usage and token burns, XRP price languishes 67% below highs. Gate exchange's new XRP/RLUSD spot market with 750K RLUSD incentives offers a fresh liquidity path but no immediate catalyst.

The XRP Ledger processed 769,646 transactions on June 16 — the second consecutive day above the 750,000 mark — yet the token’s price continues to drift lower. The gap between surging network usage and stagnant market performance has widened into a puzzle for holders.

Payment settlements accounted for roughly 427,000 of those transactions, underscoring the blockchain’s utility as a transfer rail. A significant additional share came from decentralized exchange activity, with users placing orders directly on the Ledger’s native order book. This suggests genuine demand for liquidity within the XRP ecosystem, not just speculative volume.

Each of those transactions incurs a fee denominated in XRP, which the protocol then burns rather than paying out to validators. High network usage is therefore mechanically removing small amounts of the token from circulation — a supply-side argument that should, in theory, support the price. So far, it hasn’t.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying XRP?

Enter Gate. On June 15, the exchange launched four new spot markets tied to Ripple USD, including XRP/RLUSD. Unlike earlier stablecoin pairs that routed through USDT or fiat, this one connects the native XRP Ledger token directly to Ripple’s dollar-backed stablecoin. Gate also put up 750,000 RLUSD in incentives for trading, liquidity provision, and user activity, while deliberately excluding stablecoin–stablecoin trades to avoid distorting organic order-book data. Withdrawals began June 16, free of charge from a minimum of 20 RLUSD.

The mechanics matter because XRP’s role on the XRP Ledger is that of a bridge asset — used for transaction fees, spam protection, and currency conversions in the native decentralized exchange. A direct XRP/RLUSD order book on a centralized exchange extends that bridging function into traditional spot markets. It creates a fresh liquidity path, but not an instant price catalyst.

XRP is currently trading around $1.20, roughly 67% below its 52-week high of $3.65 and well under the 200-day moving average of $1.57. The token has lost more than a third of its value since the start of the year and remains trapped below its short-term moving average near $1.32. The Gate listing has not provided any immediate relief.

For now, the market’s attention is fixed on durability. One or two days of elevated on-chain activity rarely shift sentiment by themselves. If the transaction volume holds above 750,000 in the weeks ahead, it will hand XRP a tangible counterargument to its current downtrend. If the activity fades, the signal disappears. Similarly, the real test for the new XRP/RLUSD pair will come once the 750,000 RLUSD incentive pool is exhausted and organic volume must stand on its own.
