Renk Notches 4,000th Leopard Gearbox and Record Orders, but the Stock Still Stares at a 50-Day Wall

Renk's strong Q1 orders and 4,000th Leopard 2 gearbox contrast with a 35% stock decline; shares trade near €51.48 resistance, waiting for a catalyst from Eurosatory.

The disconnect between Renk's operational progress and its share price is becoming hard to ignore. The company has just rolled the 4,000th HSWL 354 gearbox off the line in Augsburg — the transmission that powers the Leopard 2 and other armoured platforms — and secured a development contract for a more powerful successor under its "NextGen Mobility" umbrella. Yet the equity continues to trade in no-man's land, caught between a bounce from the lows and a stubborn wall of technical resistance.

That wall sits at exactly 51.48 euros, the 50-day moving average. The stock recently changed hands at 50.40 euros, meaning it needs just a 2% push to clear that hurdle. After slipping to 49.53 euros on the day of the gearbox announcement — a 2% decline that underscored investor indifference — the shares have nudged back up. Analysts tracking the charts say the 50-day line is the immediate test. A decisive close above it would lend technical credibility to the recent recovery; failure risks labelling the climb from the May trough at 42.12 euros as nothing more than a bear-market bounce.

Financials point one way, the market another

Renk's first-quarter numbers put the operational strength into stark context. The company booked the best start to a year in its history: order intake of 582.3 million euros, a total backlog swelling to 6.9 billion euros, revenue of 283.6 million euros and an adjusted EBIT margin of 15.0%. For the full year, management continues to guide for more than 1.5 billion euros in sales and adjusted EBIT between 255 million and 285 million euros.

The market, however, remains unimpressed. Over the past year Renk has lost roughly 35% of its value, and the 2026 year-to-date deficit stands at around 9%. At 88.73 euros, the 52-week high is more than 43% above current levels — a reminder of how far the stock has fallen, not a target for near-term speculation.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Renk?

Technical indicators reinforce the ambivalence. The 14-day relative strength index sits at 48.2, squarely in neutral territory. No oversold buy signal, no overheating flag. Meanwhile, the 30-day annualised volatility hovers near 50%, meaning sharp intraday swings around short-term marks can occur without any clear directional commitment.

A development contract, but no price tag

The Leopard 2 powerpack development order is strategically significant — Renk intends it as a stepping stone toward future generation propulsion — but financially opaque. The company has disclosed neither the contract value, its duration, nor the client's identity. Until that converts into concrete delivery volumes and earnings contributions, the market is likely to treat it as a promise rather than a catalyst.

The next visible catalyst arrives in June. Renk will exhibit at Eurosatory in Paris from the 15th to the 19th, showcasing driveline, suspension and electrification solutions for military platforms. The event will also feature a new ESM 280 transmission for wheeled armoured vehicles and an unmanned ground vehicle concept developed jointly with Patria. The company's hope is that a live demonstration of its technology roadmap can shift the narrative from order backlog to earnings delivery.

Renk at a turning point? This analysis reveals what investors need to know now.

For now, the stock's trajectory hinges on whether it can hold above 50 euros and then breach the 50-day moving average. Beyond that lie the 100-day average at 53.92 euros and the 200-day line at 58.67 euros — levels that would confirm a genuine medium-term improvement. Without a sustained push through 51.48 euros, the recent recovery remains technically fragile, and the market's scepticism looks likely to persist.
