Renk Posts Record Quarterly Orders, Yet Technical Weakness and Political Clouds Persist

Renk shares gained 3.30% on Friday to close at €44.10, even as analysts delivered mixed verdicts following the defence supplier’s pre-close update for the second quarter. The day’s advance trimmed a bruising month — the stock is still down 6.24% over the past 30 days and has lost 18.26% since the start of the year.
The catalyst for the session was a preliminary estimate showing Renk booked roughly €620 million in new orders during Q2, a quarterly record. That pace puts the company on track to hit its full-year target of around €2 billion in order intake, according to mwb Research, which nonetheless trimmed its price target to €48 from €50 while keeping a Hold rating.
Yet the headline strength masks two headwinds. Renk has postponed deliveries to Israel, shifting €80 million to €100 million of revenue from the first half into the second. The company’s adjusted EBIT is still expected to outpace turnover growth, but the delay will compress second-quarter reported figures.
Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Renk?
The second drag is political. Leaked documents detailing Germany’s defence procurement budget for 2027 have been assessed by mwb as a mild negative for Renk, prompting the analyst to shave 0.2% off its 2026 revenue estimate to €1.541 billion, 0.3% off 2027 to €1.815 billion, and 1.5% off 2028 to €2.1 billion.
Analyst opinion across the sector remains fractured. DZ Bank lowered its fair value for Renk to €64 from €65 after the Eurosatory defence trade fair, while Jefferies reiterated a Buy with a €60 target ahead of the full second-quarter results. The broader European defence space was jolted earlier by a Bank of America study on Rheinmetall; analyst Benjamin Heelan slashed that stock’s target from €1,770 to €1,300 but kept a Buy, arguing that modern warfare is shifting toward drones and precision weapons and away from conventional artillery — a rebalancing that could reshape order books across the industry.
The technical picture for Renk remains challenged. The stock trades 18.90% below its 200-day moving average and 50.30% below the 52-week high reached in October 2025. Closer to hand, the 52-week low of €40.41 set in June lies only 9.14% beneath Friday’s close. The relative strength index of 45.6 sits in neutral territory, while annualised volatility above 50% reflects the sector’s persistent jitters.
For Renk, the decisive test will come when full second-quarter numbers are released. Investors will scrutinise whether the record order backlog can translate into revenue and profit growth — and how much the Israel shipment deferrals and shifting NATO procurement priorities will weigh on margins in the second half.
